Rodríguez brings more than a decade of journalism experience and will make her on-air debut in May
ORLANDO, Fla. – [April 14, 2026] – Telemundo 31 / WTMO, part of NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group, announced today that Shirlyan Odette Rodríguez has been named news anchor for Noticias Telemundo 31. She will join the station’s afternoon newscasts and make her on-air debut in May.
Rodríguez joins Telemundo 31 from Puerto Rico, where she most recently served as reporter-anchor for Las Noticias de TeleOnce. With more than a decade of experience in television journalism, she has built a reputation for credible, community-focused reporting and storytelling.
Prior to joining TeleOnce, Rodríguez was part of several media projects in Puerto Rico, including Borinqueando, a television program focused on tourism, culture and Puerto Rican identity. Throughout her career, she has covered stories centered on community issues and public interest reporting, earning multiple recognitions from the Asociación de Periodistas de Puerto Rico and other organizations.

Rodríguez has also received two Emmy Awards for her journalism. In 2025, she earned an Emmy in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion category for “Más allá del silencio,” a report examining the challenges faced by the deaf community. She also received an Emmy for “Fe sobre Ruinas,” a story about the community of Guayanilla and the efforts to rebuild the Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción following the 2020 earthquake.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a minor in digital television production, from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, where she graduated summa cum laude. She also completed a master’s degree in communications with a specialization in storytelling from the same institution.
