‘La Reina del Sur’ is a groundbreaking franchise that continues to expand the global reach of Spanish-language television while redefining its storytelling for viewers around the world,” said Javier Pons, Chief Content Officer & Head of Telemundo Studios. “We’re thrilled to have Kate del Castillo return to lead this new season as we raise the bar once again with a bold, high-stakes chapter that will captivate audiences worldwide.”

“Returning to Teresa Mendoza is always an incredible journey. She’s a character who has shaped me as much as I’ve shaped her, and every season she evolves in ways that challenge me as an actress,” said Kate del Castillo. “This new season takes her to a deeper, more emotional place than ever before, and I’m excited to step back into her world. I cannot wait for fans to see this next chapter of her story.”

Season four of “La Reina del Sur” picks up years later, with Teresa Mendoza living a new life in Madrid as a successful restaurateur alongside her daughter, Sofia, and loyal ally, Oleg. But when tragedy strikes, everything changes. Consumed by grief and driven by vengeance, Teresa returns to Mexico, where she uncovers a powerful criminal network tied to the fentanyl crisis. Surrounded by corruption, danger, and unseen enemies, she must forge new alliances and dismantle the organization from within, igniting a relentless quest for justice that could either destroy her or see her rise once more from the ashes.

Based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel, the first season of “La Reina del Sur” broke ratings records, with its finale outperforming all networks regardless of language and launching Telemundo’s Super Series™ franchise. The second season, which premiered in 2019, ranked as the #1 program in its timeslot regardless of language and earned an International Emmy Award in the Best Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program. The third season further cemented the franchise’s success across linear, digital, and social platforms.

The fourth season of “La Reina del Sur” is written by Pablo Ilanés, directed by Javier Patrón Fox, Carlos Villegas, Claudia Pedraza, with Javier Pons as Executive Producer and Jacky Castro as Head of Production for Telemundo and Marcos Santana from Mas Ros Media, LLC as Executive Producer. “La Reina del Sur” Season four is a production of Telemundo Studios for Telemundo Network in the United States and Netflix as the global streaming partner.
