Just Announced – TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie to Moderate Bipartisan Conversation at National Cathedral with Gov. Spencer Cox (R-Utah) and Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.)
Series Originated on “Meet the Press NOW” with Kristen Welker
December 4, 2025 — NBC News announced the official launch of “Finding Common Ground,” a sustained, network-wide editorial franchise showcasing bipartisan interviews between lawmakers and leaders of differing viewpoints on a range of topics that matter most to the American people. Rooted in extensive audience research, the franchise responds to viewers’ fatigue of partisanship and their interest in journalism that restores clarity, trust, and constructive conversation.
The series started last year on Meet the Press with Kristen Welker with a bipartisan interview with Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and Republican Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.). Today’s announcement marks a sustained, multi-platform commitment to these bipartisan dialogues across Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, TODAY, NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas, NBC News NOW and NBCNews.com.
Announced today and as a part of this franchise, TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will moderate a bipartisan conversation with Gov. Spencer Cox (R-Utah) and Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.). This event will be hosted by The Washington National Cathedral for its “Toward a Better Politics” forum. It will air on NBC News NOW on December 9th at 8 p.m. ET, and again on December 10th on TODAY and Meet the Press NOW. The conversation will also be available on NBCNews.com.
Cesar Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal News Group, said:
“At a moment when Americans are calling for more clarity, ‘Finding Common Ground’ represents our commitment to civil dialogue that brings people together in search of solutions to the challenges we all face. With our unparalleled reach and extraordinary team of journalists, we are uniquely positioned to elevate conversations that cut through polarization and help audiences better understand the issues shaping their lives.”
Rebecca Blumenstein, President, Editorial, NBC News, said:
“Our research could not have been clearer: viewers want journalism that encourages understanding rather than division. ‘Finding Common Ground’ is our editorial answer to that demand: a sustained franchise rooted in reporting and real dialogue. This is the kind of journalism that strengthens civic discourse, and NBC News is proud to lead the way.”
Today, Meet the Press NOW will feature a conversation with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), moderated by NBC News Capitol Hill Correspondent Julie Tsirkin on the issue of Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children.
Finding Common Ground leverages NBC News’ unmatched multiplatform reach as the #1 news organization in America with 141 million viewers, according to Comscore XMedia and the strength of its seasoned team – including Kristen Welker, Savannah Guthrie, Tom Llamas and Craig Melvin – to bring audiences thoughtful and impactful conversations at a national scale. In the last two weeks alone, Meet the Press NOW has aired three interviews featuring lawmakers of different perspectives seeking bipartisan solutions: Democratic Rep. Sam Liccardo (D-Calif.) and Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) on health care; Democratic Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) and Republican Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.) on addressing the opioid epidemic among veterans; and Democratic Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) and Republican Rep. Troy Downing (R-Mont.) on helping small business owners become more literate about artificial intelligence.
