Miami, FL, <\/strong>May 29, 2024 \u2013 <\/strong>Telemundo and Billboard <\/em>announced multi-platinum global recording artist and international pop culture star Karol G<\/strong> will be honored with the \u201cWoman of the Year\u201d award at this year\u2019s Billboard Latin Women in Music<\/em> special. Airing exclusively on Telemundo on June 9, 2024 at 9pm\/8c, the two-hour music special will include explosive performances, gripping tributes and can\u2019t miss moments celebrating the Latin female artists making a positive change in today\u2019s music industry.  The special will also stream simultaneously on the Telemundo app and Peacock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leading Latin music powerhouse, Karol G has left an indelible mark on the music industry with her talent and impact on female empowerment.  Her musical career includes five studio albums, over 70 singles, and multiple collaborations with prominent artists. She has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy\u00ae and five Latin Grammy\u00ae awards, and is a top-selling artist with 111 billion combined career streams. Known for her ability to shatter records, Karol became the first female artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 with a Spanish-language album with \u201cMa\u00f1ana Ser\u00e1 Bonito.\u201d The production broke the all-time record for the biggest female Latin album by first-day streams on Apple Music and had the biggest debut ever for a Spanish album by a Female Latin Artist on Spotify. Her album \u201cMa\u00f1ana Ser\u00e1 Bonito (Bichota Season)\u201d debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, making her the first artist with two Spanish albums in the top 10 on the coveted chart in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, Karol G ranks third in the number of #1 hits among women on the Hot Latin Songs chart.  The Colombian singer and songwriter achieved her highest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 list with “TQG,” a collaboration with Shakira, which charted in the top 10.  She was the most watched Artist of 2023 on YouTube, excluding features, with over 990 million views throughout the year. The superstar also attained the highest-grossing North American tour of all time by a Latin female artist and ranked on Pollstar\u2019s Top 10 most successful music tours in the world with her “$trip Love Tour.” Her first-ever U.S. stadium tour, \u201cMa\u00f1ana Ser\u00e1 Bonito,\u201d landed at No. 11 on Billboard\u2018s Top Tours 2023 chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to her unparalleled impact on the music industry, Karol G has demonstrated exceptional commitment to civic and humanitarian causes through her philanthropic work.  In 2022, she founded the Con Cora Foundation, which aims to support underprivileged women\u2019s economic, social, psychological, and artistic development. The foundation has partnered with the She Is Foundation, which is dedicated to empowering women and girls through science, technology, and entrepreneurship education. Together, they aim to help one million women and girls by 2030. Karol G joins the previously announced lineup of powerhouse Latin women shaping the music industry.  Honorees include Gloria Estefan who will receive the \u201cLegend\u201d award; Camila Cabello who will receive the \u201cGlobal Impact\u201d award; Ana B\u00e1rbara who will receive the \u201cLifetime Achievement\u201d award; \u00c1ngela Aguilar who will receive the \u201cMusical Dynasty\u201d award; Kali Uchis who will receive the \u201cRising Star\u201d award; and Kany Garc\u00eda who will receive the \u201cSpirit of Change\u201d award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billboard\u2019s Latin Women in Music<\/em> franchise recognizes the importance of Latin women in the music industry and honors those who have positively impacted Latin music and the industry the previous year. The honors bestowed in 2023 included Shakira as \u201cWoman of the Year,\u201d Ana Gabriel as \u201cLiving Legend,\u201d Emilia as \u201cRising Star,\u201d and Thalia as \u201cGlobal Powerhouse,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
