Noticias Telemundo Names Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Jésica Zermeño Núñez As Mexico City Bureau Chief

Zermeño To Oversee Noticias Telemundo’s Multiplatform News Coverage of Mexico and Central America

MIAMI – May 19, 2025 – Noticias Telemundo has named Emmy award-winning journalist Jésica Zermeño Núñez as Mexico City bureau chief. Zermeño will manage the network news organization’s multiplatform operation in Mexico City, the base for a team that has delivered exclusive and incisive reporting from Mexico and Central America.

Zermeño joins Noticias Telemundo from Univision, where she worked as a correspondent and producer in Mexico for nearly a decade.

“Jésica brings extensive experience producing highly impactful journalism on a wide range of topics and issues in Mexico, a vitally important story for Noticias Telemundo,” said Gemma Garcia, executive vice president of Noticias Telemundo. “I’m thrilled she’s joining us as we continue to expand across our broadcast, digital and streaming platforms at a pivotal time in the U.S.-Mexico relationship and as the FIFA World Cup comes to the United States, Canada and Mexico.”

An experienced investigative reporter, Zermeño has covered migration, politics and security stories in Mexico. Prior to joining Univision, she worked as a reporter for the newspaper Reforma where she produced in-depth reports examining Mexico’s security issues. While at Reforma, she designed and pioneered a national organized crime homicides database that later became a key public reference to assess the levels of violence in Mexico.

She has also worked as a freelance editor at Penguin Random House Mondadori focused on books about politics and journalism.

Zermeño’s appointment comes as Noticias Telemundo strengthens its position as a preferred news source for Latinos. The flagship Noticias Telemundo newscast anchored by Julio Vaqueiro is the fastest-growing broadcast evening news program regardless of language, according to Nielsen data. Telemundo is the only Spanish-language network with year-on-year audience growth for all weekday newscasts. As Noticias Telemundo AHORA celebrates its one-year mark as the fastest-growing and top-ranking 24/7 premium Spanish-language news FAST channel, it will expand its programming with more original content later this year.

Noticias Telemundo also ranks as the #1 most-viewed Spanish-language broadcast news account on Tik Tok, YouTube, Facebook and X and the most-followed Spanish-language news brand on Instagram and TikTok.
