Miami, FL, April 16, 2025 – Telemundo and Billboard announced that Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum global recording artist Selena Gomez will be honored with the “Woman of the Year” award at this year’s Billboard Latin Women in Music special airing live on Telemundo on April 24 at 9pm/8c. The two-hour event will celebrate the groundbreaking women shaping the future of Latin music. The show will also be available on the Telemundo app, Universo and Peacock and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean onTelemundo Internacional.
The “Woman of the Year” award is presented to a female artist who has demonstrated exceptional success, leadership, and cultural influence in the music industry and beyond. Selena Gomez has achieved immense success in her music career, making an impressive mark on the Billboard charts across genres. With 42 entries on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100—including her first No. 1 hit, “Lose You To Love Me” (2019)—she expanded her reach into Latin music through her featured role on DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart in October 2018 and held its position for 13 weeks. Since then, Gomez has achieved three additional top 10 hits on the multi-metric ranking —which integrates airplay, digital sales, and streaming data – including “Baila Conmigo,” her collaboration with Rauw Alejandro, which soared to a No. 4 peak in 2021 and topped the Latin Airplay chart for a week. Gomez’s success in Latin music reached another milestone with the release of “Revelación,” her first-ever Spanish-language EP, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart, making history as the first album by a female artist to achieve the feat since Shakira’s El Dorado and garnered her a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. Gomez recently released her highly anticipated collaborative album with Benny Blanco, “I Said I Love You First,” which generated Gomez’s largest first week sales of her career. The album contains the hit song “Ojos Tristes” with The Marias, a reimagination of Jeanette’s 1981 classic ballad “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes,” which entered the Top 5 of the Hot Latin Songs chart.
As a chart-topping singer, award-winning actress, successful producer, and business mogul with her brand Rare Beauty, she has proven herself a versatile force in the entertainment industry. Selena uses her undeniable talent and influential voice to advocate for change and empowerment, leaving a lasting impact on both music and society. Her unwavering celebration of her Latino heritage through her music and acting projects has solidified her as a cultural icon, inspiring millions and amplifying diverse voices.
Beyond her career, Selena Gomez has become a leading voice for mental health. Through her Rare Impact Fund, she is transforming the youth mental health landscape by mobilizing over $20+ million in funds with philanthropic partners across 5 continents. In addition, she co-founded the mental health company Wondermind with her mother Mandy Teefey, which looks to break the stigma and promote well-being. Her activism for social justice and underrepresented communities further amplifies her impact beyond pop culture. Through her artistry, advocacy, and business ventures, Selena is a powerful and authentic role model, inspiring millions worldwide. This award celebrates not only artistic achievement but also the positive influence a woman has on the global music community, recognizing those who break barriers and shape the future of the industry.
Selena Gomez joins this year’s previously announced honorees, including Anitta “Vanguard Award,” Belinda “Evolution Award,” Celia Cruz “Legend Award,” Chiquis “Impact Award,” Ha*Ash “Unbreakable Award,” Natti Natasha “Unstoppable Artist,” Olga Tañón “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
