Exclusive Interviews with Chivas and América Stars including Chivas new coach Gerardo Espinoza and Sports Director Javier Mier on Futbol Estelar Chivas Extra
MIAMI, Fla. – March 5, 2025 – Telemundo, the home of Chivas de Guadalajara in the U.S., presents El Clásico De México featuring Liga MX rivals Chivas and América this Saturday, March 8 with a pregame show at 9 p.m. ET followed by the match at 9:30 p.m. ET airing simultaneously across Telemundo, Universo and Peacock.
El Clásico de México highlights two of Liga MX’s most popular teams and biggest rivals with passionate fanbases across Mexico and the United States. This year, André Jardine’s América looks to keep their title of Liga MX Champion for a fourth consecutive time. Meanwhile, Chivas is coming off a last-gasp winner against Pumas on Saturday, but their week has been busy, with the naming of Gerardo Espinoza as the new head coach following the exit of Oscar Garcia. Javier Mier also took over as sporting director for the “Rojiblancos” in a front-office shakeup this week. Both men will be featured in exclusive sit-down interviews ahead of the match.
Telemundo’s team will lead the coverage with Emmy-award winning sports journalist Miguel Gurwitz serving as host from Guadalajara while El Pelotazo co-host Veronica Rodriguez presents the main storylines from Telemundo Center. On the ground commentary team features accomplished Spanish-language commentator Jorge Calvo providing play-by-play while former Mexican National Team and Chivas player Manuel Sol provides in-depth analysis, and sideline reporter Alonso Gonzalez delivers pitch-side coverage.
Tune into Futbol Estelar Chivas Extra before and after the match for stories highlighting the culture of both teams and interviews with key players. Saturday, March 8 is also International Women’s Day, and the program will feature an exclusive interview with Adriana Iturbide, one of Chivas women’s biggest stars, who is also a thriving surgeon. Diego Arrioja and Pablo Mariño join Veronica in Miami for the program offering viewers a preview of El Pelotazo, Telemundo’s new daily sports show premiering March 10.
