Miami, FL – October 20, 2024 – Latin music stars shined on stage tonight at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards, in a spectacular ceremony broadcast on Telemundo, delivering dazzling performances with television premieres, medleys and well-deserved tributes that delighted and surprised during the grand event.
Featuring a constellation of more than 30 music stars and international celebrities and hosted by renowned Hispanic television figures Carmen Villalobos and Danilo Carrera, Latin music’s most prestigious award show opened to the music of Colombian singer Luis Alfonso, who performed the television premieres of “Tequila con Cerveza” and “Chismofilia.” The Regional Mexican music genre was also well represented by Californian group Fuerza Regida, which debuted their hit songs “Tu Name” and “Nel,” while young Mexican sensation Xavi, delighted with the television premiere of “La Diabla.”
Urban rhythm resounded on stage with Puerto Rican star Yandel, who performed his hits “Afro” and “Háblame Claro” for the first time on television, as well as reggaeton pioneer Chencho Corleone, who also performed a television debut with his song “Lo Caro y lo Bueno.”
Prince Royce performed to the rhythm of bachata tumbada alongside Mexican artist Gabito Ballesteros with the popular tropical song “Cosas de la Peda” presented for the first time on Hispanic television. With a fusion of pop and regional Mexican music, Mexican singer Gloria Trevi and Argentinian artist Maria Becerra joined on stage to sing their hit “Borracha” for the first time on television. Finally, fans enjoyed a touch of nostalgia by Grupo Niche who took the stage to perform the latest version of their historic hit “Cali Pachanguero” and Proyecto Uno who brought everyone to their feet as they closed the show with their popular song “Tiburón.”
Undoubtedly, the special awards delivered some of the most memorable moments of the awards ceremony. The evening’s big surprise came as Colombian star J Balvin, after performing his latest song “Cosa de Locos,” received the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award from the hands of his great friend Maluma.
Mexican icon Pepe Aguilar received the Billboard Hall of Fame Award and accompanied by a group of mariachis, thrilled audiences with a medley of his greatest hits, including “Por Mujeres Como Tú,” “Prometiste,” “Recuérdame Bonito,” and his new song “Cuídamela Bien,” while renowned Spanish singer and songwriter Alejandro Sanz received the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award.
THE TOP WINNERS WERE
The top winners of the awards held in Miami, Florida were Karol G with eight trophies, including Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and Tour of the Year. Her song “Qlona” with Peso Pluma, won the awards for Hot Latin Song of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event, and Streaming Song of the Year. Bad Bunny received six awards, including Artist of the Year and his album Nadie Sabe lo que Va a Pasar Mañana was honored with Top Latin Album of the Year and Latin Rhythm Album of the Year, while his song “Mónaco” was chosen as Sales Song of the Year.
Peso Pluma also received six awards, three of them for the success of “Qlona” with Karol G, as well as Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Male, Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Solo and Songwriter of the Year. Fuerza Regida won four awards, including Regional Mexican Album of the Year for Pa Las Baby’s y Belikeada, as well as Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group.
Artists receiving one award included Alejandro Sanz, ATL Jacob, Aventura, Camilo, Cris Mj, Daddy Yankee, Ernesto “Neto” Fernández, FloyyMenor, Gabito Ballesteros, J Balvin, Julión Alvarez y su Norteño Banda, Kali Uchis, Maffio, Maná, Nacho, Pepe Aguilar, Prince Royce, Romeo Santos, Shakira, Venesti, Wisin & Yandel and Xavi.
