MIAMI, Fla. – May 1, 2024 – Telemundo presents Spanish-language coverage of the Kentucky Derby, beginning Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. ET taking place at the iconic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. on Universo, and streaming on Telemundo.com and the Telemundo app.
Mage and Venezuelan jockey Javier Castellano won last year’s Kentucky Derby finishing the race with a time of 2:01.57. Among the top 10 contenders for the 150th Kentucky Derby title are four horses with Latino jockeys including: Fierceness with hall-of-famer and four-time Kentucky Derby winner, Puerto Rican John Velazquez; Resilience with 2024 Saudi Cup winner, Venezuelan Junior Alvarado; Dornoch with Florida-based, Panamanian Luis Saez; and Track Phantom with Dominican Joel Rosario who won in 2013.
Emmy award winning sports anchor Miguel Gurwitz is set to host coverage of the “Run for the Roses” with announcing by Jose Francisco Rivera and sideline reporting by Ariana Figuera live from Chruchill Downs.
Tune in for an interview with Venezuelan trainer Victor Barbosa Jr. This year marks the first time the veteran of 20 years has an official horse competing in the historic Derby, Grand Mo the First.
Soccer Hall of Famer and seven-time Emmy Award winner, Andres Cantor will also be in attendance this weekend to join NBC’s renowned race caller Larry Collmus for a fun and engaging segment titled “How to Call a Race”.
