MIAMI – August 18, 2023 – Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie spoke with Noticias Telemundo anchor Julio Vaqueiro today in a wide-ranging interview. Christie discussed next week’s Republican primary debate, his presidential campaign, abortion, immigration and other issues.

Highlights of the interview will air on “Noticias Telemundo” at 6:30 PM ET / 5:30 CT and a version of the interview will be available on Noticias Telemundo’s properties on YouTubeFacebook and Twitter.

Asked about former President Trump’s decision not to participate in the first Republican primary debate, Christie said: “He’s a coward. He’s afraid. There’s fear. They’re scared to do things that need to be done, to explain himself to the people of this country, and most particularly the people of our party. I’m the only candidate in this race who has been very, very clear that I don’t think Donald Trump should be president. I think there’s no doubt in people’s minds where I stand.”

When asked about Gov. Ron DeSantis and the debate, Christie said: “America ain’t Florida. It’s bigger. And it’s different. And I hope that he learned something from this campaign: that he listens. Because I don’t suspect he’s been doing much of that. He likes to do a lot of telling people what to do and not a lot of listening. But we’ll see what he does on the stage on Wednesday night.”
