‘Born to Rule’ Debuts May 30; Click Here to Listen to Trailer

May 24, 2022 – On Monday, May 30, TODAY will launch a new original podcast ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee titled Born to Rule: When Charles Is King. The series, hosted by NBC News Senior International Correspondent Keir Simmons, explores Prince Charles’ long-awaited reign as all eyes turn to the royals and asks what a modern monarchy would look like.

At a defining moment for the country, the five-episode series will examine Prince Charles’ decades of preparation to wear his mother’s crown, uncover secrets about the man who will rule over the United Kingdom and delve into the monarchy’s place in the modern world.

Interviews throughout the series with royal insiders and journalists on the beat include former member of Princess Diana’s security team Ken Wharfe, writers Tina Brown and Tom Bower, podcast host and royal commentator Kristen Meinzer and more.

The first two episodes of Born to Rule will be available on Monday, May 30, with a new episode released each following Monday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.

The launch of the Born to Rule podcast is part of the week-long series “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,” which will begin airing across NBC News and MSNBC platforms on May 29th. The series will explore Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years of service, the renewed interest in the monarchy and heightened division, as well as the future of the royal family, ahead of the Platinum Jubilee.

The podcast series is the latest addition to the NBCUniversal News Group’s expansive portfolio and is part of the podcast unit’s biggest year yet, with five original podcast premieres within the first two quarters alone. NBCUniversal News Group is also a top 5 podcast publisher in the Podtrac monthly rankings, with several chart-topping and award-winning original podcasts.
