(Nov. 11, 2022) – Tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET, NBC News NOW will present American Vets: Beyond the Battlefield, a new special hosted by NBC News NOW anchor Tom Llamas and NBC Philadelphia’s Lucy Bustamante. The 30-minute special will highlight the service of the U.S. Military, the struggles the veteran community faces and the many ways veterans and their families are supporting each other to find healing and hope. Servicemembers in the U.S. and stationed overseas will also share their Veterans Day wishes.
During the special, NBC News NOW anchor Aaron Gilchrist will have a one-on-one interview with VA Secretary Denis McDonough about the recent passage of the PACT Act and how it will impact veterans’ healthcare and benefits, while also discussing veteran homelessness and making prevention of veteran suicide a priority.
American Vets: Beyond the Battlefield is part of NBC News’ ongoing Those Who Serve series, which celebrates veterans’ service and triumphs through inspiring stories and in-depth coverage.
Additional highlights from tonight’s special include:
- Bustamante speaks with Telemundo Orlando anchor Iris Delgado about how her family employed love and patience to survive the severe symptoms of her veteran husband’s PTSD.
- NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Richard Engel provides an update on Ukraine.
- NBC News senior medical correspondent Dr. John Torres will report on the VA’s first clinical trial on psychedelic-assisted therapy.
- NBC News correspondent Courtney Kube will share stories of veterans who have found their calling by serving students in schools through ‘Troops to Teachers,’ a program that helps service members and veterans become certified and employed as teachers in K-12 schools.
