NBC News NOW To Gain Global Presence With International Distribution
July 27, 2021 – NBCU News Group is significantly expanding its streaming and digital operations, with a substantial investment that will include adding 200 new positions and several new hours of live, original programming to NBC News NOW. The roles are expected to be filled over the next several months and the new slate of NBC News NOW programming will debut this fall.
Since its inception in 2019, NBC News NOW has experienced remarkable growth and success, expanding its live and regular programming in recent months and now averaging more than 44 million views and 14 million hours watched per month. In addition to launching NBC News NOW, NBCU News Group also debuted TODAY All Day and The Choice from MSNBC on Peacock in 2020, making it the only news organization with three major streaming channels.
Continuing its commitment to impactful journalism and quality original streaming content, NBC News NOW will add substantial staffing resources and several new hours of live, original programming featuring trusted journalists, beginning this fall. This new streaming schedule will include a daily, primetime news program anchored by senior national correspondent, Tom Llamas; a daily evening show and weekly special newsmagazine series hosted by senior Washington correspondent and anchor, Hallie Jackson; and an evening news analysis and explainer program, hosted by anchor, Joshua Johnson.
NBC News NOW will continue to expand its weekday live programming throughout the fall and add to its weekend live, original programming beginning in Q122. The streaming network will also begin its international distribution later this year.
NBCU News Group (NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC) Digital has seen tremendous growth over the past several years, including recently ranking as the #1 digital news organization in the US for the first time in its history (beating CNN, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, New York Times and Washington Post), reaching tens of millions of gen-Z viewers with its Stay Tuned programming on Snapchat and other social media platforms, continuously ranking in the top 10 of podcast publishers and overall reaching an average of 138 million unique visitors and more than 382 million video views each month, according to Comscore. Building on its success, the company will add dozens of new digital roles across its brands, including doubling the TODAY newsroom, growing NBC News’ successful breaking news and beat reporting, expanding the MSNBC digital footprint and continuing the momentum of commerce and CNBC Pro. All of this will be underpinned by continued investment in mobile, video, social, product, engineering and more.
“When we combine the power of our portfolio, across our many platforms, our reach and impact is unmatched,” said Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCU News Group. “Our core focus is to consistently innovate in how our brands deliver distinctive, high-quality journalism. This substantial investment in streaming and digital allows us to meet the needs of news consumers in a rapidly-changing digital media industry.”
In total, NBCU News Group’s staffing investment will include 200 new jobs, with the majority of these new roles supporting NBC News NOW’s growing streaming operations and programming. This follows a recent investment of more than 70 new hires.
NBC News NOW is available as a channel on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, as well as on The Roku Channel, YouTube TV, YouTube, Fubo, Xumo, Pluto, Tubi and on NBCNews.com and the NBC News’ OTT apps on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.
