Llamas To Serve As Anchor & Senior National Correspondent For NBC News

New Primetime Show On NBC News NOW To Launch This Summer 

April 26, 2021 – Tom Llamas has been named senior national correspondent for NBC News, it was announced today by Noah Oppenheim, President of NBC News. Llamas will join the network on May 3rd and will anchor a new primetime newscast on NBC News NOW, the network’s 24/7 streaming news service. Llamas will also contribute reporting to the network’s flagship shows, including TODAY and NBC Nightly News and to NBC’s breaking news and special events coverage.  

“Tom brings with him more than two decades of experience tenaciously covering the news across multiple platforms and for many different audiences,” said Noah Oppenheim, President of NBC News. “Our viewers expect us to bring them smart and trustworthy journalism, wherever they are, and we’re thrilled that Tom will be bringing his expertise and passion to NBC News, NBC News NOW and beyond.”

Llamas, an Emmy award-winning journalist, will return to NBC, where he began his reporting career in 2000, serving first with the Specials Unit at NBC News and then as a political campaign reporter for MSNBC. Most recently, he served as anchor of ABC News’ World News Tonight weekend editions, contributed to breaking news and live events programming for ABC News Live and was the network’s chief national affairs correspondent, reporting across all of ABC News’ programs and platforms. 

Llamas has covered some of the most important stories in recent history, including Covid-19 hot zones across the country, the 2020 presidential race, the immigration crisis at the U.S. border with Mexico including an investigation into ICE detention centers. He has also conducted in-depth interviews with newsmakers such as first lady Melania Trump and Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. Earlier in his career Llamas worked at NBC Owned Stations as an investigative reporter and anchor at WNBC in New York and as a reporter for WTVJ in Miami.

Llamas will anchor a new evening streaming show on NBC News NOW, which has expanded its live programming in recent months. Since launching in 2019, NBC News NOW has grown to an average of more than 25 million viewers and 30 million hours watched each month. The upcoming launch of Llamas’ new show is the first evening newscast for NBC News NOW and newest addition to the streaming network’s growing slate of live and regular programming. 

NBC News NOW is available to stream live on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, as well as on The Roku Channel, YouTube TV, Fubo, Xumo, Pluto, Tubi and NBC News’ OTT apps on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV
