Salt Lake City – (July 29, 2024) – Telemundo Utah / KULX, part of NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group, today announced Michelle Benitez has been named anchor and Jesús Bastidas has been promoted to anchor and multimedia journalist. They debut in their new roles today, Monday, July 29, during the 5 p.m. edition of Noticiero Telemundo Utah.

Benitez joins Telemundo Utah from Univision 34 Atlanta / WUVG, where she served as an evening and late news anchor for more than four years. During her tenure with WUVG, she was recognized with a pair of Georgia Association of Broadcasters’ GABBY Awards for reporting and political coverage and earned multiple Southeast Region Emmy Awards.

“Michelle is an award-winning journalist with considerable experience covering a range of subjects, from politics to sports, and interviewing leading officials and high-profile figures,” said Amy Alvarez, News Director for Telemundo Utah. “She is a tremendous addition to our new team, and we’re excited about the contributions she’ll make to Noticiero Telemundo Utah.”

Prior to Univision 34, Benitez spent more than two years as a news anchor for Noticias WINK and Univision WSFL in Fort Myers, Fla. She also gained experience as an assistant producer and reporter for the Telemundo-owned station serving Orlando, Telemundo 31 / WTMO. A native of Ecuador, Benitez graduated from the University of South Florida.

Bastidas joined Telemundo Utah in May 2022 as a multimedia journalist, contributing coverage of breaking news and current events to Noticiero Telemundo Utah. He also leads special reports and original content projects, such as ‘Eureka: Pueblo Fantasma Detenido en El Tiempo, which earned a Communicator Award and a Bronze Telly Award earlier this year.

“Jesús has proven to be a valuable asset in his more than two years with Telemundo Utah, and his professionalism and passion for journalism are apparent to our Noticiero Telemundo Utah audiences” added Alvarez. “This is a well-deserved opportunity for him to expand his impact in serving our communities and contributions within our talented newsroom.”

Prior to joining KULX, Bastidas held a variety of media roles for Venezuelan media outlets. He most recently served as a news anchor and producer for VPItv, based in Miami.
