NBC Boston Stations Announce More Than 3,600 Pets Were Adopted from Local Rescues and Shelters During 2023 ‘Clear the Shelters’ as National Campaign Reaches 1 Million All-Time Adoptions

Needham – (September 20, 2023) –   NBC10 BostonTelemundo BostonNECN and NBC Sports Boston today announced that more than 3,600  pets were adopted from area animal shelters and rescues during its 2023 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation initiative from Aug. 1 to 30. 

Nationwide, NBCUniversal Local’s ninth annual Clear The Shelters helped more than 157,000 find new homes. Since its 2015 inception, Clear The Shelters has led to more than one million adoptions nationwide. Additionally, the campaign has already raised more than $575,000 for local shelters and rescues as part of this year’s efforts as fundraising continues through the month.

“Year-round, but especially during August, we are committed to helping find forever homes for as many vulnerable dogs, cats, and other pets as possible,” said Chris Wayland, President and General Manager of NBC10 Boston, NECN, Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra and NBC Sports Boston. ”We are proud to support the dedicated staff and volunteers from the dozens of local partner shelters in our area.”

During this year’s campaign, 193 cats and 76 dogs were rescued after a life-saving mission airlifted them from South Florida to New Jersey and New Hampshire. The airlift was funded by Greater Good Charities’ “Good Flights” program, Hill’s Pet Nutrition and The Animal Rescue Site.
