This Year’s Event to Celebrate Nonprofit’s 50th Anniversary of Service to South Florida Communities
MIRAMAR, Fla. – Sept. 18, 2025 – Telemundo 51 Miami / WSCV, part of NBCUniversal Local’s Telemundo Station Group, will present its 27th annual fundraising telethon benefitting Liga Contra el Cáncer (League Against Cancer) this Saturday, Sept. 20, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. across its TV, streaming and digital platforms.
Liga Contra el Cáncer was founded in Miami in 1975 as a community based, not for profit organization providing free medical care to cancer patients and is the last resort for those who have no financial resources or health insurance. This year’s event will commemorate 50 years of Liga Contra el Cáncer serving South Florida communities.
Telemundo 51 has produced the telethon in support of Liga Contra el Cáncer since 1998. Last year’s telethon raised $3,196,855.
“This year’s 50th anniversary is a powerful reminder of Liga Contra el Cáncer’s dedication to serving those who need it most,” said Jorge Carballo, President and General Manager of Telemundo 51 and NBC6. “Telemundo 51 is honored to have stood alongside the League for 27 years through this telethon, ensuring they have the resources to continue making a difference in people’s lives.”

The telethon will be hosted live from the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition Center by Telemundo 51’s Daisy Ballmajó, Alejandra Molina, Fausto Malavé, Marilys Llanos, Mariana Rodríguez, Alejandro Isturiz and Silvana del Mar.
At this year’s event, Miami icon Willy Chirino will receive special recognition from Liga Contra el Cáncer and Telemundo 51 for his longstanding support of the League. During the program, Chirino is slated to perform a duet with Osmani García and another with Leoni Torres.
