NBCU Local & Greater Good Charities Partner on ‘Clear The Shelters’ Life-Saving Pet Airlift on Aug. 20

Special Flight to Transport More Than 120 Shelter Pets from Louisiana to New Jersey & New Hampshire

NEW YORK – Aug. 14, 2025 – NBCUniversal Local and Greater Good Charitiesare partnering on a special Clear The Shelters life-saving pet airlift mission to transport more than 120 at-risk shelter cats and dogs from Louisiana to New Jersey and New Hampshire on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The airlift is part of the 11th annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign taking place now through Aug. 31, with fundraising through Sept. 15. This year, NBC and Telemundo stations are partnering with more than 1,700 animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote animal welfare. 

The Clear The Shelters airlift, conducted by Greater Good Charities, will consist of cats and dogs from nine overpopulated shelters in Louisiana and Alabama, including harder-to-place or vulnerable pets, like large dogs, homeless cats and asymptomatic heartworm-positive shelter dogs. 

A chartered plane will depart from New Orleans to transport approximately 85 shelter cats and dogs to Morristown, N.J., and then will proceed to Manchester, N.H., with the remaining pets. Upon arrival, the pets will be received by several shelters, which will provide any medical care needed and place the pets for adoption. 

This marks the sixth Clear The Shelters life-saving pet airlift, which have transported more than 600 shelter cats and dogs since 2021. The first Clear The Shelters pet airlift mission was conducted on Aug. 23, 2021. Since its 2015 inception, Clear The Shelters has led to nearly 1.2 million pet adoptions and raised more than $5 million.
