Comcast NBCUniversal, NBCUniversal Local Grant $2.5m to 76 Nonprofits in NBC- & Telemundo-Owned Stations’ Markets

Unrestricted Funds to Support Youth Education & Empowerment, Next-Generation Storytellers, & Community Engagement in 11 U.S. Markets

NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants Have Provided $18.5M to More Than 500 Nonprofits Since 2018

NEW YORK – (Aug. 20, 2024) – Comcast NBCUniversal and NBCUniversal Local announced a total of $2.5 million have been awarded to 76 nonprofit organizations servicing one of the 11 NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ markets across the U.S. through the 2024 NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants. Founded in 2018, NBCUniversal’s grant program has now provided $18.5 million to 546 nonprofit organizations.

The competitive grant challenge, now in its seventh year, provides unrestricted funding to eligible nonprofits who provide vital support to their respective communities in the categories of youth education and empowermentnext-generation storytellers, and community engagement. The 2024 application period for eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits began March 19 and concluded April 19. 

“The NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants empower our stations to choose organizations that are making a meaningful impact within their communities,” said Jessica Clancy, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility, NBCUniversal. “These unrestricted funds will help the selected nonprofits advance their missions through youth education and empowerment, promoting the next generation of storytellers, and community engagement.”

Nonprofits receiving funds serve communities in the following NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations’ markets: New York (WNBC, WNJU), Los Angeles (KNBC, KVEA), Chicago (WMAQ, WSNS), Philadelphia (WCAU, WWSI), Dallas (KXAS, KXTX), Boston (WBTS, WNEU), Washington, D.C. (WRC-TV, WZDC), San Francisco (KNTV, KSTS), Miami (WTVJ, WSCV), San Diego (KNSD, KUAN) and Hartford, Conn. (WVIT, WRDM).

Los Angeles – Miry’s List

Miry’s List aims to support newcomer families with the incredible challenges of resettlement by connecting them with their new neighbors. The vision of Miry’sList is to transform the culture of welcoming refugee families to the U.S. by engaging the American public in welcoming newcomers in their communities directly.

Chicago – Devices 4 the Disabled

Devices 4 the Disabled (D4D) is dedicated to enabling individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. The organization’s core programs and services center on providing essential medical equipment and specialized support to those in need, all at no cost. This initiative aims to empower people with disabilities and foster mobility, independence, freedom, and dignity for those they serve.

Philadelphia: Project Libertad

Project Libertad’s mission is to empower newcomer immigrant youth by providing essential, youth-led and youth-centered legal and social services — the only such services available in the Greater Philadelphia Area. By filling this gap in needed services, Project Libertad furthers its vision of a world where all newcomer immigrant youth have access to the legal services, social services, academic support, and leadership opportunities needed to thrive.

Dallas-Fort Worth – Abide Women’s Health Services

Abide Women’s Health Services provides comprehensive and culturally informed healthcare services, focusing on maternal and infant health, particularly in BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. Through prenatal care, postnatal care, childbirth education, and lactation support services, Abide aims to empower individuals and families to achieve healthier pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences.

Boston – Innovators for Purpose

Innovators for Purpose’s mission is to transform the STEM educational landscape for underrepresented youth. Their mission is centered on empowering BIPOC students, girls, children of first-generation immigrants, and those from low-income families.

Washington, D.C. – Arts For The Aging-Maryland

Arts for the Aging’s mission is to engage older adults and caregivers with diverse abilities and backgrounds in health improvement and life enhancement through regular participation in the multidisciplinary arts.

San Francisco – Scientific Adventures For Girls 

Scientific Adventures For Girls (SAfG) seeks to remove systemic barriers to all girls’ participation in STEM starting in transitional kindergarten, engage them through hands-on learning, increase their positive attitudes toward STEM, and equip them with 21st-century skills.

Miami – Buddy System MIA

Buddy System is a community-oriented nonprofit that improves food security across Miami-Dade County. Its food access program is a multifaceted approach that creates innovative ways to engage the community and empower neighbors to support neighbors, beginning with access to free, healthy food.  Its reach relies on a network of 75 local community partnerships and over 1,400 local volunteers with the ultimate goal of creating lasting change by addressing local issues by the community, for the community.

San Diego – Samuel Lawrence Foundation

The Samuel Lawrence Foundation aims to bring together a multitude of nonprofits, businesses, civic groups, and community members to create infrastructure for green spaces on school campuses. They work with teachers and informal educators to bring high-quality programming—lessons that are trauma-informed, culturally affirming, and standards-aligned—to the students they work with.

Hartford, Conn. – Charter Oak Amateur Boxing Academy & Youth Development Program

Charter Oak Amateur Boxing Academy & Youth Development Program‘s mission is to keep at-risk boys and girls out of gangs, away from drugs, in school, alive, and on the path to post-secondary education through a holistic approach that centers on amateur boxing and is supported by tutoring, mentoring, prevention education, and life skills training.
