NEW YORK, NY – November 22, 2023 – International music superstar and NBC daytime television host Kelly Clarkson surprised 31 New Jersey high school students during this afternoon’s televised broadcast of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Clarkson announced this year’s NBC 4 New York/Telemundo 47 “Star Choir” winner was the “Musical Theater Voices” Choir from High Tech High School of the Hudson County Schools of Technology, located in Secaucus. Click here for announcement still photos. The choir will perform during NBC’s broadcast of “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” airing next Wednesday, November 29 starting at 7pm.
Members of the media are invited to cover the choir’s final preparations and interview choir members on Monday, November 27. RSVP is required.

Unique to the public County Vocational High School, the “Musical Theater Voices” Choir is not a formal school program or club. The singers are members of school’s musical theatre arts program who separately organized themselves and regularly practice together outside the classroom and perform at yearly school showcases, special assembly programs and community events. To support their national performance, the school will receive a $10,000 donation from “The Kelly Clarkson Show” sponsor Balsam Hill and another $5,000 donation from NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47. The young singers reside in communities across Hudson County.
“Under the guidance of our committed educators and through their own unwavering commitment, our skilled students have not only honed their craft, but have now been recognized on a broader stage,” said Amy Lin-Rodriguez, Superintendent of The Hudson County Schools of Technology. “This honor underscores the strength of our Theater Arts Career and Technical Education program in nurturing and fostering diverse talents. Entries for the 2023 the “Star Choir” competition were accepted for youth singing groups residing within New York City DMA, consisting of New York, New Jersey, Fairfield County, Connecticut and Pike County, Pennsylvania. Entries were accepted between September 18 and October 12. This is the first time a winner was selected from New Jersey with previous “Star Choir” winners hailing from P.S. 103 in The Bronx (2021) and P.S.14 in Corona, Queens (2022).
