October 17, 2022<\/strong> \u2014 The Meet the Press <\/em>Film Festival at DOC NYC<\/strong> unveiled its 2022 programming slate today, as Meet the Press<\/em> gears up for its sixth year bridging the gap between political journalism and film through a leading showcase of the year\u2019s best issue-based short documentaries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s festival \u2014 set in New York for the first time \u2014 will spotlight critical issues like global migration, equality in sports, civil and gender rights, and racism in the criminal justice system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The films include two world premieres, including an all-new NBC News Digital Docs production in partnership with Focus Features, Dear Noah: Pages from a Family Diary<\/em>, which tells the story of a family\u2019s move from Texas to protect the safety of their transgender teenager. The slate of films \u2014 which also features several New York premieres \u2014 underscores the festival\u2019s growing popularity as a platform for in-depth conversations about these issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following each of this year\u2019s six programming tracks, filmmaker will join in in-depth conversations moderated by NBC News correspondents and anchors, including\u00a0Meet the Press<\/em>\u00a0Moderator and NBC News Political Director\u00a0Chuck Todd<\/strong>;\u00a0<\/strong>NBC News Chief Washington Correspondent and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent\u00a0Andrea Mitchell<\/strong>; NBC News Correspondent and Co-Host of\u00a0Third Hour of TODAY<\/em>\u00a0Craig Melvin<\/strong>; NBC News NOW Anchor,\u00a0Stay Tuned<\/em>\u00a0Co-Host and NBC News Correspondent\u00a0Savannah Sellers<\/strong>; MSNBC Host Symone Sanders-Townsend; and NBC News Studios Head of Documentary\u00a0Molly O\u2019Brien<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last five years, the Meet the Press Film Festival has screened nearly 100 short documentary films from nine countries. The festival has screened more than a dozen Oscar\u00ae and Emmy\u00ae nominees including \u201cLead Me Home,\u201d<\/em> showcased at last year\u2019s film festival, and \u201cKnife Skills<\/em>,\u201d \u201cEdith + Eddie<\/em>\u201d and \u201cHeroin(e)<\/em>\u201d in 2018. \u201cLearning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You\u2019re A Girl)\u201d, <\/em>featured at the film festival in 2019, won the 2020 Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 92nd-annual Academy Awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Meet the Press Film Festival at DOC NYC builds on DOC NYC\u2019s ongoing partnership with NBC News Studios, which will present the second-annual \u201cJournalism Day\u201d at DOC NYC in addition to serving as a Major Sponsor and debuting the NBC News Studios Lounge during this year\u2019s 13th<\/sup> Edition of DOC NYC from Nov. 9-17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kivu, Hong Kong, Milwaukee \u2014 people move across the globe, seeking shelter from violence and oppression. These films tell the stories of migrants from the Balkans, Iraq, China and Congo, as they resettle in cities around the world.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Than I Remember<\/em><\/strong>, Directed by Amy Bench (U.S. \u2013 14 min.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separated from family by a bombing, 14-year-old Mugeni traverses the globe to reunite with her lost relatives and lift up the Banyamulenge people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Flagmakers<\/em><\/strong>, Directed by Cynthia Wade & Sharon Liese (National Geographic, 40 min.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flags at the largest American flag factory in the country are stitched by refugees and immigrants whose stories redefine what it is to be American.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
