June 22, 2021 \u2013  In a special Dateline NBC<\/em> airing this Friday at 10pm ET\/9pm CT, Dateline<\/em> correspondent Josh Mankiewicz will report on Shapearl Wells\u2019 journey to find answers after her son was shot and killed in Chicago. During the one-hour broadcast, Wells opens up about her son\u2019s murder, as well as her podcast Somebody<\/em>, which documented her own investigation into whether Chicago police detectives did enough to try to solve the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the special hour,\u00a0The Story of Somebody<\/em>, Dateline<\/em> will also investigate why homicides involving Black victims are less likely to be solved, and look at the state of policing in America, including the relationship between the Chicago cops and the communities they police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the broadcast will feature Mankiewicz\u2019s interviews with Alison Flowers, the Director of Investigations at the Invisible Institute and a producer of the Somebody<\/em> podcast, Thomas Hargrove, founder of the nonprofit Murder Accountability Project and Dr. Cedric Alexander, former director of public safety for DeKalb County, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one-hour Dateline<\/em> is part of NBC News\u2019 The Future of the Force<\/em> series this week on policing, with in-depth reports airing on TODAY, NBC Nightly News<\/em>, NBCNews.com, NBC News NOW and MSNBC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
