Sept. 12, 2019 <\/strong>\u2014\nWashington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 The Meet\nthe Press<\/strong><\/em>\nFilm Festival in collaboration with the American Film Institute <\/strong>will\nair a special screening on Oct. 6 of the U.S. premiere of the documentary film Toxic Beauty<\/strong><\/em>, <\/em>directed by Phyllis Ellis\nand produced by White Pine Pictures of Toronto, Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marks the first time U.S. audiences will view the 90-minute film\nthat explores products marketed by the beauty and cosmetic industry and tackles\nissues of public health risks. The special screening will kick off the\nthird-annual festival the next day in Washington, D.C. that will showcase more\nthan 20 issue-based short documentaries from five countries.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toxic Beauty <\/em>addresses the unregulated chemicals in cosmetics and\npersonal care products through the stories of whistle blowers, scientists,\ncancer survivors and those who have lost their lives. From lead in lipstick,\nmercury in skin cream, formaldehyde in shampoo, to parabens, asbestos, talc, and\naluminum that can be traced in daily products, Toxic Beauty<\/em> <\/em><\/strong>looks into skin care, feminine care,\npersonal care, and children\u2019s products that have been associated with health\nissues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toxic Beauty<\/em> will screen at the U.S. Naval Heritage Center at 6:30\np.m. ET on Oct. 6 and Meet the\nPress <\/em>moderator and NBC News political director Chuck Todd will\nmoderate a conversation with director Phyllis Ellis, Environmental Working\nGroup senior vice president for government affairs Scott Faber, and author of Doubt is their Product<\/em> Dr.\nDavid Michaels following the screening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
