JUNE 3, 2018 \u2013 President Trump pardoning himself \u201cwould lead to, probably, an immediate impeachment\u201d as terminating Special Counsel Mueller\u2019s Russia probe also \u201ccould lead to impeachment,\u201d warned Rudy Giuliani<\/strong>, the president\u2019s personal lawyer, this morning on NBC News\u2019 \u201cMeet the Press with Chuck Todd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Giuliani distanced himself from the letter sent by the president\u2019s lawyers to Mueller in January, telling Todd: \u201cI didn’t make the argument, but I agree with most of it as any lawyer. I probably would’ve organized it differently. \u2026 I agree with about 80 percent of what he [John Dowd] wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n

Todd asked the former New York City mayor if he expects to be named in the forthcoming Inspector General\u2019s report as a recipient of leaked information from the F.B.I. \u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d replied Giuliani. \u201cImpossible. I didn\u2019t get any leaked information from the F.B.I. \u2026 I speculated based on the fact that I knew there was a lot of turmoil within the F.B.I.\u201d He added, \u201cI do security work all over the world and I use F.B.I. agents, and I consider them current people. People haven’t retired yet. And then I have retired people.\u201d Watch the full interview.<\/a><\/p>\n

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau<\/strong> sat down with Todd in an exclusive interview from the Parliament of Canada, responding to the White House\u2019s claim that new tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum are to protect national security interests: \u201cOur soldiers who had fought and died together on the beaches of World War II…and the mountains of Afghanistan, and have stood shoulder to shoulder in some of the most difficult places in the world, that are always there for each other, somehow \u2013 this is insulting to that. \u2026The idea that we are somehow a national security threat to the United States is quite frankly insulting and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s political roundtable was comprised of NPR\u2019s Joshua Johnson<\/strong>, National Review\u2019s Rich Lowry<\/strong>, The Wall Street Journal\u2019s Peggy Noonan<\/strong> and NBC News\u2019 Katy Tur<\/strong>, who reacted to Todd\u2019s Giuliani interview.<\/a> It\u2019s \u201cinteresting that he threw Dowd and Sekulow under the bus in terms of that letter,\u201d remarked Tur.<\/p>\n

President Obama \u201ctook it as a given that some of the opposition to him was rooted in racism,\u201d shared Ben Rhodes,<\/strong> former deputy national security adviser for Obama and author of the new book, \u201cThe World As It Is,\u201d in a conversation with the roundtable.<\/a> Rhodes joins NBC News and MSNBC as a political contributor.<\/p>\n
