Kouri Richins’ Brother Speaks Out on Verdict for the First Time: ‘It Was Shock… It Was Literally Just Shock’

April 23, 2026 — Dateline will air a new two-hour Friday broadcast at 9 p.m. ET featuring the latest developments in the case of mother-of-three Kouri Richins, who wrote a children’s book about grief and was recently found guilty of murdering her husband, Eric.
Reported by Andrea Canning, Friday’s broadcast will include new interviews with key figures connected to the investigation including Richins’ brother DJ, who is speaking publicly for the first time since the verdict.
DJ describes his reaction to the outcome as immediate disbelief, saying, “It was shock. I mean, it was literally just shock.” He also recounted a conversation following the verdict, saying that after his mother commented that Kouri “did a good job, that she just didn’t break down there,” he responded, “It’s not a matter of breaking down… And I felt the same thing she did.”
