NEW YORK – February 12, 2015 – NBC’s TODAY continues to gain momentum, tightening the ratings race and posting daily wins. For the week of February 2, TODAY was the number-one morning show Thursday, topping GMA in the key demo A25-54.  TODAY has now won eight of the last 19 rated days in the key demo, and posted its largest demo audience in ten months (since 3/31/14).  TODAY also closed the total viewer gap with GMA by double digits in triple measures: week-to-week (by 48%), versus the year-to-date average (by 63%), and compared to the season-to-date levels (by 72%).  Season to date, TODAY has closed the total viewer gap with GMA by 16% versus last season.

TODAY remains the number-one morning news program in A18-49 for the season and is posting its biggest lead in that demo versus GMA since the Sochi Olympics.

TODAY HIGHLIGHTS:

Week of February 2

  • TODAY has won eight of the past 19 rated days in A25-54 viewers
    • For the 4th consecutive week, TODAY has won at least one morning among A25-54 viewers (leading GMA on Thursday by +35,000)
    • For the third consecutive week, TODAY increased its demo audience (hitting its highest level since the week of 3/31/2014) and ranked #1 among W25-54 (2.20 rating)
    • TODAY marked its third consecutive week (and 8th in the last 11 weeks) of closing to within 100,000 A25-54 viewers of GMA
    • TODAY averaged 2.056 million A25-54 viewers, leading CBS This Morning by +82% (+929,000)
    • TODAY delivered a 1.72 A25-54 rating, +83% (+0.78) better than CBS
  • TODAY averaged 5.192 million total viewers, topping CBS by +54% (+1.829 million)
    • TODAY increased its total viewer lead versus CBS for the third straight week, reaching its best advantage since the week of 12/15/2014
    • TODAY has finished within 500,000 total viewer of GMA in 9 of the last 10 weeks
  • TODAY was the #1 morning news program among A18-49 viewers, posting its biggest lead versus GMA since the Sochi Olympics
    • TODAY averaged 1.599 million A18-49 viewers, outperforming GMA by +12% (+175,000) and doubling CBS’s delivery by +100% (+801,000)
    • TODAY had its best A18-49 audience since the week of 5/12/2014 and biggest gap over GMA since the week of 2/17/014
    • TODAY’s 1.26 A18-49 rating beat GMA by +13% (+0.14) an CBS by +100% (+0.63)
  • Week-to-week, TODAY saw increased viewing among A18-49 viewers (+6%) and A25-54 viewers (+3%), both representing the largest week-to-week gains among the morning news programs
  • Versus the 1Q’15-to-date average, TODAY posted the largest morning news growth across-the-board in total viewers (+5%), A18-49 viewers (+11%) and A25-54 viewers (+8%)
  • TODAY also saw the largest increases versus season-to-date levels in total viewers (+6%), A18-49 viewers (+9%), and A25-54 viewers (+9%)
  • During the week, TODAY narrowed GMA’s leads:
    • Week-to-week among A25-54 viewers (by 48%) and widened its lead over GMA among A18-49 viewers (by 165%)
    • Versus the 1Q’15-to-date average among A25-54 viewers (by 63%) while widening its A18-49 viewer lead over GMA by 1,246%
    • Compared to 2014-15 season-to-date levels in both total viewers (24%) and A25-54 viewers (72%)
  • For the current 2014-15 STD period, TODAY has closed the gap with GMA versus last season in total viewers (16%)
  • TODAY is the #1 morning news program among A18-49 viewers this season
