Sept. 12, 2023 — Meet the Press with Chuck Todd (MTP) was the #1 Sunday public affairs show this past Sunday, September 10, according to data from Nielsen Media Research.
The broadcast, which was Chuck Todd’s final Sunday in the moderator chair, featured exclusive interviews with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), as well as a special segment to close the show in which Todd officially passed the baton to Kristen Welker, who assumes the moderator chair on Sept. 17.
#1 in Total Viewers this Past Sunday
This past Sunday, MTP averaged 2.538 million total viewers, besting ABC’s This Week by +210,000 (+9%) and CBS’s Face the Nation by +8,000 (+0.3%).
In the key A25-54 demographic, MTP outperformed ABC by +56,000 (+13%). It trailed CBS by just 9%. CBS continues to rate for only 30 minutes of its hour-long program; across the full hour, MTP and Face the Nationwere virtually tied in the demo.
This marks MTP’s first total viewers win vs. ABC and CBS in over two years. The program increased its viewership across-the-board vs. the prior week, posting its largest A25-54 audience since April and its largest total viewer audience since January.
An additional 471,000 total viewers and 207,000 A25-54 viewers watched the Sunday program through a rebroadcast on NBC.
Continues Dominant Growth on Digital Platforms
MTP reached 2.8 million digital video views across platforms last week, posting a 156% YoY increase. Viewers watched over 230,000 hours of content across MTP channels.
In addition to the millions of linear viewers, an additional 224,000 viewers watched the Sunday broadcast on YouTube this week.
#1 in the Nation’s Capital for 8 Years Straight
MTP ranked #1 across the board this past week in the influential Washington, D.C. market, where it hasn’t lost a Sunday in total viewers in over eight years.
