August 14, 2022 – Starting today, NBCUniversal News Group will feature in-depth coverage across platforms on the key issues schools, families and students are facing as they return to the classroom. Reporters across the country will offer a unique look at how schools are dealing with the nationwide teacher crisis, the decisions families are making as they deal with rising prices and at the pressures students face as they return, some even embracing untraditional paths to learning, from homeschooling to trade schools. The two-week series, Kids Under Pressure, will air across TODAY, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, NBCNews.com and NBC News NOW.

Throughout the series, NBC News and MSNBC will look at how families are coping with the rising cost of just about everything, from college tuition, to transportation, to food. Featuring reporting from NBC News’ Business, Technology & Innovation Unit and NBC News’ Medial Unit, the series will look at the choices schools are making as they aim to keep school meals healthy amid inflation, and how many schools are not tapping into the funding they are getting to improve school ventilation, a key tool in the fight against the spread of Covid.

NBC News will also debut a new Kids Under Pressure poll of college sophomores, the class of 2025, about their optimism levels going into the school year, as well as their anxieties about jobs, the economy and the current political climate.

Additional highlights throughout the series will include:

  • On Wednesday, August 17, TODAY will dedicate its entire 8am hour to how teachers are finding solutions to supply shortages by pitching in to help their students have a successful school year.
