Dec. 30, 2021 – All next week, as the nation marks one year since the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol Hill attack, NBCUniversal News Group will air in-depth exclusive coverage exploring the state of extremism in America.

On Thursday, Jan. 6, NBC News, MSNBC, NBCNews.com, NBC News NOW, CNBC and Noticias Telemundo will air special live coverage of commemoration events on Capitol Hill, along with special coverage planned from the nation’s capital.

The week-long “State of Extremism” series begins this Sunday, Jan. 2 and will feature a special edition of Meet the Press, exclusive interviews throughout the week, deep-dive investigative reports, and will explore the growing influence and the impact of conspiracy theories ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

SPECIAL LIVE COVERAGE ON JAN. 6 – “ATTACK ON THE CAPITOL: ONE YEAR LATER” – ACROSS NBC NEWS, MSNBC, CNBC, NOTICIAS TELEMUNDO, NBC NEWS NOW & MORE

· At 7 a.m. ET, NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie will anchor a special edition of TODAY from Washington D.C. In a TODAY exclusive, Guthrie will sit down with the vice chair of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.)

· At 9 a.m. ET, Guthrie will anchor an NBC News Special Report from Washington D.C. as President Biden makes remarks from the Capitol

· At noon ET, NBC News’ Tom Llamas will anchor an NBC News Special Report for the moment of silence and prayer on the House floor. 

· At 5:30 p.m. ET, NBC News’ Lester Holt will anchor an NBC News Special Report from Washington D.C.as a prayer vigil is held on the Capitol Hill steps.

· They will be joined by NBC News anchors, correspondents and analysts, including NBC News political director and moderator of Meet the Press Chuck Todd, NBC News justice correspondent Pete Williams and more.

·  On NBC Nightly News at 6:30 p.m. ET, Holt will anchor the newscast from Washington, D.C. with a broadcast exclusive interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Holt will also report on some of the forgotten heroes of the insurrection: the custodial staff who helped to clean up after the deadly attack. Holt will also anchor Nightly News from D.C. on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

·  On Morning Joe on MSNBC, co-hosts Mika BrzezinskiJoe Scarborough and Willie Geist will begin special coverage at 6 a.m. ET and will be joined by journalists and “Peril” co-authors Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

·  MSNBC will provide live special coverage of the day’s events across MSNBC Reports anchored by Stephanie Ruhle, José Díaz-Balart, Craig Melvin, Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd, Katy Tur and Hallie Jackson.

·  Starting at 4 p.m. ET, MSNBC will continue its special coverage – “Democracy In Peril” – Nicolle WallaceAri MelberJoy ReidChris HayesRachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell will examine all angles of the insurrection, interview lawmakers in the Capitol Building that day and look at the emotional fallout following the attack. 

·  The Choice from MSNBC will stream comprehensive coverage exclusively on Peacock throughout the day including reporting and analysis on Zerlina. hosted by Zerlina Maxwell and The Mehdi Hasan Show

·  On CNBC, The News with Shepard Smith will take viewers through the events of the U.S. Capitol Hill attack, reporting on happenings behind the scenes during the attack and where the investigation stands today. 

·  On Noticias Telemundo at 6:30 p.m. ET, Julio Vaqueiro will anchor the newscast from Washington, D.C. with a first-person account from senior Washington correspondent Cristina Londoño who reported live from inside the Capitol during the attack. Telemundo’s special coverage will kick off at 7 a.m. ET on the network’s morning show, hoyDía.

  • On Sunday, Jan. 2, NBC News’ Chuck Todd will host a special edition of Meet The Press: January 6: One Year Later featuring interviews with Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Chair of the Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, and Rep. Peter Meijer (R-Mich.), who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after the insurrection. 
  • On Sunday, Jan. 2 during Sunday TODAY and on MSNBC, NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell will take a look at the rising tensions between Democrats and Republicans in Congress following the Jan. 6 attack. 
  • In an NBC News exclusive, NBC News’ Ali Vitali will sit down with two representatives on both sides of the aisle whose first day in Congress was Jan. 6. They will open up about how the attack has shaped their tenure and deepened divides within the Capitol Hill community. The report will air Sunday, Jan. 2 on NBC Nightly News and on NBCNews.com.
  • NBC News justice correspondent Pete Williams will have rare behind-the-scenes access to the FBI’s investigation into the attack, including the latest in the ongoing search for the Capitol Hill pipe bomber. The report will air on TODAY and NBC Nightly News
  • In an exclusive wide-ranging interview to air on NBC Nightly News and TODAY, Capitol Hill rioter Jenna Ryan sat down for a wide-ranging discussion with NBC News senior national correspondent Kate Snow just before she reported to prison to serve her 60 day sentence. 
  • On NBC Nightly News, NBCNews.com and MSNBC, NBC News senior reporters Brandy Zadrozny and Ben Collins will investigate where the instigators behind the Jan. 6 insurrection are now, including a look at how groups like the Proud Boys are becoming more involved in protesting mandatory vaccines at school board meetings. Plus, Collins will report for NBCNews.com on how the far-right is anticipating the former president’s planned remarks on the day.
  • NBC News senior Washington correspondent Hallie Jackson will look at the “Stop the Steal” movement one year later, including its hold on the GOP even though it has been disproven through recounts and audits across the country. Jackson’s reporting will air across NBC Nightly News, MSNBC and NBC News NOW.
  • On TODAY, NBC News Senior Capitol Hill correspondent Garrett Haake will report on how the money Congress allocated to overhaul Capitol security in the aftermath of the attack is being used. Haake will speak with U.S. Capitol Police officers, members of Congress, and outside agencies about new training and equipment to make sure that a tragedy at the Capitol will never happen again.
  • NBC News’ Jonathan Allen examines how, one year later, “Jan. 6” has become shorthand for an ongoing and existential battle over fair elections, the integrity of democratic institutions and who holds power. As dramatic, traumatic and uniquely poignant as the riot was, it is only a piece of that fight, which is unfolding across the country in local election boards, state legislatures, courtrooms and the halls of Congress. 
  • NBC News’ Sahil Kapur will report for NBCNews.com on the two major deadlines now facing the House committee investigating the riot and any early recommendations on how to prevent future attacks.
  • NBCBLK’s Char Adams will interview photographer Mel Cole, who captured the insurrection, for NBC News Digital.
  • CNBC.com reporter Brian Schwartz will dive into the investigation surrounding the Capitol Hill rally organizers, highlighting what is known about the organizers and how they’re being looked at by the select committee. Also, CNBC.com reporter Dan Mangan will look at the status of the convictions that have already been handed down and where additional prosecutions stand.
