Sept. 12, 2019 Washington, D.C. — The Meet the Press Film Festival in collaboration with the American Film Institute will air a special screening on Oct. 6 of the U.S. premiere of the documentary film Toxic Beauty, directed by Phyllis Ellis and produced by White Pine Pictures of Toronto, Canada.

Tickets are on sale now at www.nbcnews.com/mtpfilm.

This marks the first time U.S. audiences will view the 90-minute film that explores products marketed by the beauty and cosmetic industry and tackles issues of public health risks. The special screening will kick off the third-annual festival the next day in Washington, D.C. that will showcase more than 20 issue-based short documentaries from five countries.

Toxic Beauty addresses the unregulated chemicals in cosmetics and personal care products through the stories of whistle blowers, scientists, cancer survivors and those who have lost their lives. From lead in lipstick, mercury in skin cream, formaldehyde in shampoo, to parabens, asbestos, talc, and aluminum that can be traced in daily products, Toxic Beauty looks into skin care, feminine care, personal care, and children’s products that have been associated with health issues.

Toxic Beauty will screen at the U.S. Naval Heritage Center at 6:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 6 and Meet the Press moderator and NBC News political director Chuck Todd will moderate a conversation with director Phyllis Ellis, Environmental Working Group senior vice president for government affairs Scott Faber, and author of Doubt is their Product Dr. David Michaels following the screening.

Documentaries exhibited at the Meet the Press Film Festival with AFI are not the products of NBC News. The independent filmmakers who produced these films are responsible for the content of their films.
