Broadcast Grows Across the Board Month-Over-Month

JANUARY 29, 2018 – NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt is the #1 most-watched broadcast in the key demo for the month of January, winning seven consecutive months according to Nielsen Media Research data. Nightly News continues as the #1 most-watched evening newscast season-to-date in the key demo.

For the month of January, the broadcast continues its strong performance in the key demo averaging 2.1 million A25-54 viewers, growing month-over-month, and beating ABC World News Tonight by +39,000 viewers (+2%) and CBS Evening News by +647,000 viewers (+46%).

Nightly News averaged 1.4 million A18-49 viewers, topping ABC by +18,000 viewers (+1%) and CBS by +384,000 viewers (+37%). The broadcast has won the A18-49 demo for seven consecutive months as well and grew month-over-month.

9.0 million viewers tuned in to Nightly News for the month of January 2019, +2.2 million total viewers (+33%) more than CBS Evening News.

This month, NBC Nightly News launched “Justice for All,” a new criminal justice series focusing on unjust sentencing and unreliable convictions, highlighting the stories of the wrongfully accused and the new ways of seeking justice. As part of the series, Holt spoke exclusively with Matthew Charles, one of the first prisoners released under the new federal criminal justice reform law. He also interviewed rapper Meek Mill about his new criminal justice reform initiative, REFORM, in conjunction with Jay-Z and others.

The broadcast averaged 2.1 million A25-54 viewers for the week of January 21, topping ABC World News Tonight by +49,000 viewers (+2%) and CBS Evening News by +617,000 viewers (+41%).  Nightly News averaged 1.4 million A18-49 viewers, topping CBS Evening News by +323,000 viewers (+30%). The broadcast grew its key demo audience and A18-49 week-over-week.

9.0 million total viewers tuned in to Nightly News for the week of January 21, growing week-over-week and besting CBS Evening News by +2.2 million total viewers (+32%).
