March 6, 2018 – NBC News presents “Confronting Putin,” an hour-long primetime special, anchored by Megyn Kelly, this Friday at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT. Kelly sat down for two exclusive one-on-one interviews with President Vladimir Putin last week, speaking with him inside the Kremlin and at the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad ahead of the country’s election this month. Kelly pressed President Putin on Russia’s alleged cyber-attack on American democracy and nuclear weapons development, as well his views on President Trump, his own election campaign and the war in Syria. President Putin denied government involvement in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and said he “couldn’t care less” if 13 Russian nationals, who were indicted by the special prosecutor, had interfered because “they do not represent the interests of the Russian state.” He added, “if they did not violate a Russian law, then there is nothing to bring them to justice for in Russia.”
The NBC News special will feature much more from these timely and sometimes combative interviews with President Putin, and will also include interviews with former CIA Director and NBC News Senior National Security and Intelligence Analyst, John Brennan, President of Council on Foreign Relations, Richard Haass, and NBC News and MSNBC Chief International Security and Diplomacy Analyst, Admiral James Stavridis, among others.
This special marks the return of the weekend primetime newsmagazines Kelly will anchor periodically this spring and summer until football season. After this week, the newsmagazine will broadcast on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT as Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly, dependent on Kelly’s schedule with her weekday morning program, Megyn Kelly TODAY.
