Holt’s One-on-One Conversation with Ohio Governor Airs Tonight on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt”
NEW YORK – July 18, 2016 – Ohio Gov. John Kasich tells Lester Holt that Donald Trump “would have to change everything that he says” in order for Kasich to speak at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, in an exclusive one-on-one that airs tonight on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.” Holt attended a security briefing in Cleveland with the former GOP presidential candidate, who will not attend this week’s party convention. An excerpted segment of their conversation, Kasich’s first since the start of the convention, is included below.
Holt will anchor “NBC Nightly News” LIVE from the Republican National Convention in Cleveland tonight and through Thursday. The one-on-one with Kasich will also air today across NBC News platforms, including MSNBC and NBCNews.com.
In addition to anchoring “NBC Nightly News” live from Cleveland, Holt will lead NBC News’s primetime coverage of the Republican National convention, joined by Guthrie and Chuck Todd from 10-11 p.m. ET all four nights of both conventions. Holt will anchor live inside the convention hall.

LESTER HOLT: If Donald Trump called you right now and said, “Bygones be bygones. Come over and speak this week.”
JOHN KASICH: Well, no. He’d have to change everything that he says. We can’t be attacking Muslims and Hispanics, and trying to shut down trade, and not caring about the debt. Those are all problems for me. And so it’s not — I don’t hold any personal animus towards Donald Trump. We just are two companies that have different values, different directions, and different philosophies.
