Only Broadcast to Post Gains in A25-54 Viewers VS. 2014 November Sweep

DECEMBER 2, 2015– “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” was America’s #1 newscast across the board for the 2015 November sweep period, marking its 33rd consecutive sweep period win and its 14th straight November sweep win among total viewers.

Nightly delivered a +247,000 viewer turnaround in the A25-54 demo gap versus the 2014 November sweep period, topping ABC by +221,000 (vs. -26,000 last year).

Nightly was the only broadcast to post gains in A25-54 viewers versus the 2014 November sweep: (NBC: +8,000), (ABC: -10%, or -239,000) and (CBS: -5%, or -101,000). Both ABC and CBS posted record lows in A25-54 viewers for a November sweep.

Compared to the November 2014 sweep period, the NBC broadcast more than doubled its A18-49 advantage over ABC (+226,000 in 2015 vs. +107,000 last year).

During the Thanksgiving week, Nightly drew its biggest total viewer average since February (week of 2/16/2015) and its largest advantage over CBS in over two months (week of 9/7/2015).

The NBC broadcast increased its total viewer audience week-to- week by 4% (+338,000).

2015 November Sweep:

  • Nightly averaged 9.202 million total viewers, +269,000 more than ABC and +1.452 million more than CBS.
  • Nightly averaged 2.263 million A25-54 viewers, +11% (+221,000) more than ABC and +30% (+522,000) more than CBS.
  • Nightly has won 18 of the last 19 November sweeps among A25-54 viewers.
  • Nightly averaged 1.641 million A18-49 viewers, +19% (+266,000) more than ABC and +41% (+478,000) more than CBS.
  • Nightly has been #1 for 19 consecutive November sweeps among A18-49 viewers.

Week of November 23-27:

NOTE: Nightly is based on a 3-day average (Mon-Tue, Fri) while ABC and CBS are based on 2-day averages (Mon-Tue). In addition, the November 2015 sweep ended on Wednesday.

  • Nightly averaged 9.946 million total viewers, leading ABC by +3% (+270,000) and CBS by +24% (+1.937 million).
  • Nightly has been #1 in total viewers for 23 consecutive weeks, 28 of the last 31 weeks, and 363 of the last 371 weeks.
  • Nightly averaged 2.340 million A25-54 viewers, +29% (+531,000)  ahead of CBS.
  • Nightly averaged 1.686 million A18-49 viewers, +11% (+173,000) more than ABC and +35% (+441,000) higher than CBS.
  • Nightly has been #1 in A18-49 for 18 consecutive weeks and 26 of the last 29 weeks.

Season-To-Date:

  • Nightly is the #1 evening news program in total viewers and all key demographics.
  • Nightly averages 8.719 million total viewers, +3% (+279,000) higher than ABC and +20% (+1.464 million) more than CBS.
  • Nightly averages 2.105 million A25-54 viewers, +9% (+167,000) more than ABC and +29% (+479,000)  ahead of CBS.
  • Nightly averages 1.515 million A18-49 viewers, +16% (+210,000) more than ABC and +39% (+422,000) more than CBS.
