Marks First ‘Nightly News’ Broadcast from China in Nearly 20 Years

May 6, 2026 – NBC News’ Tom Llamas will anchor special editions of NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas (6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT) and Top Story with Tom Llamas (streaming 7 p.m. ET on NBC News NOW) live from China next week.

Llamas will report from Beijing as President Donald Trump meets with President Xi Jinping for a high-stakes summit between two global powers with economic and geopolitical implications. This will mark the first time Nightly News has been broadcast from China since the 2008 Olympic Games.
