‘Deadly Engagement’ Debuts September 16; First Two Episodes Available Now for Dateline Premium Subscribers

September 9, 2025 – Dateline will launch Deadly Engagement, an all-new podcast, Tuesday, September 16. Reported by correspondent Josh Mankiewicz, the six-part series transports listeners to a college campus in Durham, North Carolina, where the shocking murder of graduate student Denita Smith sent ripples throughout the community. After a love triangle is uncovered, two former lovers turn on each other.

The first two episodes will be available for download and streaming across major podcast platforms starting September 16, followed by a new episode on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the following two weeks. Dateline Premium subscribers can start listening to the first two episodes now and will receive early access to all subsequent episodes.
Deadly Engagement marks the latest series in Dateline’s chart-topping portfolio, with the newsmagazine receiving a Silver Spotify Creator Milestone award for surpassing 250 million podcast downloads on the platform earlier this year. The podcast also launches ahead of Dateline’s upcoming 34th season premiere on September 26. Mankiewicz, along with anchor Lester Holt and correspondents Blayne Alexander, Andrea Canning, Keith Morrison and Dennis Murphy will appear at Dateline LIVE in Nashville on September 28.
