“Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” Starts Season Strong with Another Win in the Key Demo

October 1, 2024 — Fresh off a season that saw notable ratings gains on Sunday mornings, Meet the Press with Kristen Welker (MTP) carried its momentum into the 2024-2025 broadcast season with a win in the key demo this past Sunday, according to Nielsen panel data.

Sunday’s win marks the fourth consecutive week in which MTP has outperformed ABC’s This Week in the demo.

In September, MTP saw 6 million video views across digital platforms, averaging nearly 200,000 viewers on YouTube each week on top of its substantial linear viewership.

#1 in the Key Demo This Past Sunday

MTP was the #1 Sunday show in the demo most valued by news advertisers this past Sunday, improving its audience compared the previous week and reaching its largest A25-54 audience since July. The broadcast averaged 494,000 A25-54 viewers, outperforming ABC’s This Week by +134,000 (+37%) and CBS’s Face the Nation by +102,000 (+26%).

MTP posted its first back-to-back wins in the key demo over CBS, which continues to rate for just 30 minutes of its hour-long program, since November 2023.

Sunday’s broadcast featured interviews with Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), along with a new NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC Latino poll. The show also featured Welker’s “Meet the Moment” conversation with Dateline producer Dan Slepian and criminal legal reform advocate JJ Velazquez, who spent over two decades in prison for a murder he didn’t commit – and whose conviction was vacated by a judge in New York on Monday. The broadcast averaged 2.299 total viewers.

#1 in the Demo in September

MTP was also the #1 Sunday show in the key demo in September, improving its competitive positions across-the-board compared to both ABC and CBS. The broadcast increased its A25-54 viewership compared to August, averaging 463,000 viewers and leading ABC by +61,000 (+15%) and CBS by +38,000 (+9%).

Sees 12M Video Views Across Platforms in Q3

MTP had a dominant quarter on digital, seeing 12 million video views across digital platforms in Q3 2024 and continuing to demonstrate its digital strength with just weeks to go until the 2024 election. The quarterly numbers were boosted by a strong September in which the brand garnered 6 million video views in the last month.

MTP averaged nearly 200,000 full episode viewers on YouTube each week, with the average viewer watching for 28 minutes per episode.

Continues Undefeated Streak in Washington, D.C.

MTP has never lost a month in total viewers in the influential Washington, D.C. market. This past Sunday, MTP beat the competition combined in the key demo and continued its nine-year run having not lost a Sunday in total viewers in the nation’s capital.
