Sept. 10, 2024 — Meet the Press with Kristen Welker (MTP) was the #1 Sunday public affairs show in the key demo this past Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, according to panel data from Nielsen Media Research.
With just eight weeks until Election Day and on the eve of the presidential debate, the strong demo win marks a strong election season start for the broadcast, which once again proved its position as the place viewers turn this summer when it comes time to break down the biggest moments in our nation’s politics.
#1 in the Key Demo
MTP averaged 459,000 viewers in the demo most valued by news advertisers this past Sunday, outperforming ABC’s This Week by +67,000 (+17%) and CBS’s Face the Nation by +37,000 (+9%) among viewers aged 25-54. The performance marked an increase in A25-54 viewers vs. the prior week for MTP.
MTP additionally ranked #2 among total viewers, averaging 2.383 million viewers and leading ABC by +2,000 (+0.1%). CBS continues to rate for only 30 minutes of its hour-long broadcast.
Sunday’s broadcast featured interviews with Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), along with analysis of the latest polling on the presidential race from NBC News national political correspondent Steve Kornacki.
Hundreds of Thousands Additional Viewers on Digital
MTP reached 1.2 million video views across digital platforms last week, with audiences watching 116,000 hours of content from MTP channels.
On YouTube, Sunday’s episode saw 175,000 viewers on top of the program’s linear numbers — a 73% week-over-week improvement in YouTube viewership.
Beats the Competition Combined among Demo Viewers in the Nation’s Capital
Among total viewers, MTP has not lost a Sunday in the influential Washington, D.C. market for over nine years. This past Sunday, MTP once again ranked #1 in the demo and total viewers, beating the competition combined in A25-54.
