For 3rd Quarter, ‘Dateline’ Friday Tops ABC’s ‘20/20’ By Double Digits in Key Demos

September 20, 2022 – Dateline is the #1 most-watched newsmagazine and true-crime franchise across all of TV for the 2021-2022 broadcast season with over 127.3 million total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. Additionally, over 133 billion minutes of Dateline were consumed across TV and digital platforms, which includes NBC, cable and broadcast syndication and Peacock’s Dateline 24/7 channel. This marked an increase of +24% compared to last season. Across digital, Dateline marked its strongest season with more than 30 million video views, up +50% vs. last year.
Dateline’s chart-topping showcast delivered its strongest broadcast season ever with more than 335 million total downloads, up +24% in year-over-year measurements. The showcast, which features broadcasts as podcast episodes, also received 2 million downloads on average per episode.
For the 3rd quarter, Dateline is also the #1 Friday newsmagazine in the key demos. Among the A25-54 demo, Dateline averages 626,000 viewers, topping 20/20 by +14% (+76,000). The broadcast notches 408,000 A18-49 viewers, leading 20/20 by +12% (+43,000). Across digital, Dateline’s monthly video views were up more than +40% versus the same quarter last year.
This past year, Dateline debuted three new chart-topping original podcasts, celebrated its 30th anniversary, premiered Dateline: The Last Day on Peacock and launched Dateline Premium, an all-new Apple Podcasts subscription offering true crime fans 400+ hours of ad-free listening, early access to episodes and exclusive bonus content.
