Primetime Special Features Interview with the Fathers of Trayvon Martin, Jacob Blake & Michael Brown; Plus, Interview with Mario Van Peebles

June 17, 2022 – NBC News NOW will present Can You Hear Us Now? Black Fathers, a 30-minute primetime special hosted by Trymaine Lee, MSNBC correspondent and host of the Into America podcast, examining Black fatherhood. The special airs on Friday, June 17 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

During the special, Lee sits down with Tracy MartinJacob Blake, Sr. and Michael Brown, Sr., the three fathers of Trayvon Martin, Jacob Blake and Michael Brown. The men discuss being “fathers of the movement” and their shared experience of having sons impacted by state violence.

Lee also speaks with Mario Van Peebles about the burden of being the son of a famous father and how he’s passing on the legacy of Melvin Van Peebles to his own children. Finally, Lee speaks with TODAY’s Al Roker and Craig Melvin about fatherhood, Black men’s health and advice to give children this Father’s Day.

The special is the latest in the streaming network’s growing slate of original and special programming. Recent specials have included Black History NOWCan You Hear Us NOW?, TransAmerica The Racism Virus, NBC News Special Report: Inside Ukraine with Lester HoltGeneration LatinX, and more.
