Primetime Special Features Exclusives with the NYPD Chief of Detectives & the First Asian American to Officiate in the NFL

May 11, 2022 – NBC News NOW and NBC Asian America will present The Racism Virus, a one-hour, primetime special hosted by NBC News’ Vicky Nguyen, focused on the hate and violence Asians in America have experienced since the pandemic began over two years ago. The special airs on Wednesday, May 11 at 9 p.m. ET.

In the second installment of The Racism Virus, Nguyen has an exclusive interview with the NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig to discuss New York’s handling of the surge in anti-AAPI hate crimes. Plus, following the history-making hire of the first Asian American to officiate in the NFL, Lo van Pham speaks out for the first time to Nguyen. Additional interviews include actor Daniel Dae Kim, NBA player Jeremy Lin, “Angry Asian Man” blogger Phil Yu, president and co-founder of GoldHouse Bing Chen and more as the special aims to cover how the AAPI community is coming together and moving forward amid the rise in hate and violence towards the community.

The special is the latest in the streaming network’s growing slate of original and special programming.
