TODAY Narrows Total Viewer Gap with GMA Versus Prior Year And Week 

NEW YORK – January 19, 2022 – NBC News’ TODAY was the number-one morning show last week topping ABC’s “Good Morning America” in the key demo A25-54. The win marks 326 out of the last 333 weeks in first place. TODAY also won outright last Monday.  

Last week, TODAY was the only morning program to grow in total viewers versus prior year. Additionally, TODAY cut the total viewer gap with GMA versus both the prior week and year. 

TODAY has been number-one in the key demo at this point in the season for seven years straight. Season to date, TODAY’s A25-54 percentage lead over GMA is its largest in three seasons and its A18-49 percentage lead is its largest in four seasons. 

TODAY Digital reached 15.1 million unique visitors last week, growing week over week. 

TODAY HIGHLIGHTS:

TODAY averaged 921,000 A25-54 viewers, leading GMA by +105,000 (+13%) and CBS Mornings by +357,000 (+63%)

  • TODAY has ranked #1 in among A25-54 viewers for 326 of the last 333 weeks
  • TODAY’s demo lead over GMA was more than 8 times higher than the same week last season (+105,000 vs. +13,000 prior year).

TODAY averaged 654,000 A18-49 viewers, leading GMA by +94,000 (+17%) and CBS by +242,000 (+59%)

  • Versus the same week last season, TODAY more than doubled its A18-49 advantage over GMA (+94,000 vs. +45,000 prior year).

TODAY averaged 3.328 million total viewers, +791,000 (+31%) more than CBS

  • For the second week in a row, TODAY was the only morning news program to increase its total viewership versus the same week last season (+42,000, or +1%) while also closing the viewer gap vs. GMA by 61% (-97,000 vs. -247,000 prior year) and improving its advantage over CBS by 36% (+791,000 vs. +580,000 prior year).
  • TODAY improved its total viewership gap vs. GMA by 10% week-over-week (-97,000 vs. -108,000 prior week).

TODAY Digital reached 15.1 million unique visitors last week, growing week over week.
