Jan. 19, 2022 – With the consequential 2022 midterms less than 10 months away, NBC News and Meet the Press are doubling down on ground-up reporting with the launch of ‘Meet the Midterms’ – a special long-term focus on reporting from key battleground states across the country including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. 

Plus, over the next two weeks, NBCU News Group will examine where President Biden’s agenda stands as the administration marks its first year in office with in-depth cross-network reporting on the last year, exploring the promises made, kept and unfulfilled. The special series, “The Biden Agenda: Year Two,” will appear across TODAY, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press, MSNBC, NBC News NOW, and NBCNews.com.

‘MEET THE MIDTERMS’ TO FEATURE ON-THE-GROUND REPORTING FROM KEY BELLWETHER STATES AHEAD OF THE 2022 MIDTERMS

  • This week and through the midterms, NBC News political director and Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd will begin traveling to consequential battleground states, speaking directly with voters, candidates and office holders, and reporting on the highly competitive Senate and gubernatorial races in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and beyond. 
  • One year after Democrats flipped the Senate by winning Georgia’s two runoff elections, Todd will anchor special ‘Meet the Midterms’ editions of MTP Daily live from battleground Georgia this Wednesday, Jan. 19 and Thursday, Jan. 20. He will be joined by elected Georgia officials and candidates for office, including, Lt. Gov. of Georgia Geoff Duncan, Republican gubernatorial candidate Vernon Jones, and Rev. James Woodall, as well as NBC News reporters Blayne Alexander and Marc Caputo.
  • On Thursday, Jan. 20, as President Biden marks exactly one year in office, NBC News will release new numbers from the latest NBC News Poll showcasing the president’s job approval ratings and what it portends for the 2022 midterms. 
  • In addition, the hyper-local midterm reporting builds on NBC News and Meet the Press‘County to County’ project, covering and embedding reporters in seven bellwether counties from coast-to-coast to report on issues with national implications as the 2022 midterms begin to take shape. NBC News reporter Dasha Burns will report from Luzerne County, Pa.; NBC News and MSNBC correspondent Shaquille Brewster will report from Dane County, Wis.; and NBC News correspondent Guad Venegas will report from Washoe County, Nev. Their reporting will air across all NBC News and MSNBC platforms.
  • Meet the Press will also debut the ‘Midterm Meter’ in Meet the Press’s First Read newsletter and on MTP Daily, a data-driven tool to forecast and examine which way the political winds are blowing and what the midterm political environment looks like for the party controlling The White House.
  • NBC News NOW will present special election programming through the 2022 midterms focusing on the consequential Senate, gubernatorial, state-level and local mayoral elections taking place across the country. The primetime specials will be hosted by NBC News Political Director and Meet the Press Moderator Chuck Todd and Chief White House Correspondent Kristen Welker
  • NBC News Digital will soon relaunch the popular “Plan Your Vote” interactive, a state-by-state guide to mail-in and early in-person voting for the primaries and general election. Accessed by millions in 2020, this tool, created by our data journalism team at NBCNews.com and produced in close conjunction with the digital politics team and the NBC News Decision Desk, has been an excellent example of public service journalism.
  • NBCNews.com will also be home to a best-in-class experience for live updating results on primary and general election nights.

PLUS – FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS – “THE BIDEN AGENDA: YEAR TWO” – NBCU NEWS GROUP TO EXAMINE THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION’S FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE 

  • On Wednesday, Jan. 19 on NBC Nightly News, NBC News business and technology correspondent Jo Ling Kent will report on the status of the 500 million tests the Biden administration promised and look into the testing companies in talks with the administration.
  • NBC News chief White House correspondent Kristen Welker will travel to South Carolina and report on President Biden’s promises to Black voters. While African American voters carried then-candidate Biden to a victory, the president is now struggling with that key constituency nationwide. Welker’s reporting will air Wednesday, Jan. 19 on NBC Nightly News and publish to NBCNews.com.
  • On Wednesday Jan. 19, NBC News and MSNBC correspondent Shaquille Brewster will report from Madison, Wis. where the Wisconsin Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on redistricting. The outcome of the case could determine the state’s political maps for the next decade.
  • NBC News chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander will look into President Biden’s performance on the economy this past year and speak with Americans across the country about how their lives are going one year into Biden’s presidency, and how that may play into their political thinking. Alexander’s reporting will air Thursday, Jan. 20 on TODAY.
  • NBC News reporter Dasha Burns will preview Pennsylvania’s Senate race with a new candidate entering the crowded fray and millions already being raised and spent. On Thursday, Jan. 20 on NBC Nightly News, Burns will also be on the ground in Luzerne County, Pa. where she will speak with workers about how rising costs may impact their vote in the 2022 Midterms.
  • On MSNBC, NBC News and MSNBC national political correspondent Steve Kornacki will return to the Big Board on Thursday, Jan. 20 to break down the latest polling on President Biden’s job approval ratings at the one-year mark and look at how it compares to past presidents and what it means for the 2022 midterms. 
  • On Friday, Jan. 21, NBC News correspondent Kelly Cobiella will examine President Biden’s handling of the U.S.’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. Cobiella will travel to Kandahar, Afghanistan where she will embed with UNICEF’s mobile health clinic and report on the situation on the ground. Cobiella’s reporting will air on TODAY, NBC Nightly News, MSNBC and NBC News NOW.
  • NBC News senior business correspondent Stephanie Ruhle will examine President Biden’s economic report card and look at how the pandemic upended the labor market this past year.
  • NBC News White House correspondent Monica Alba will take a look at the President’s key challenges and successes a year into his presidency. 
  • On NBC News NOW, NBC News correspondent Josh Lederman will look into President Biden’s promises made on climate change. While President Biden was praised for re-entering the Paris climate agreement and ending the Keystone XL pipeline, his first year comes to an end with no clear pathway to delivering on his sweeping emissions goals. 
  • NBC News reporters Henry Gomez, based in Ohio, Natasha Korecki, based in Illinois, and Marc Caputo, based in Florida, will report on key storylines, states, races and candidates, alongside NBC News reporters Jonathan Allen, Jane C. Timm, Allan Smith, Alex Seitz-Wald, Sahil Kapur, Peter Nicholas and Adam Edelman.
