‘Dateline’ Special Goes Beyond the Headlines, Features Exclusive Interviews & New Details in Murdaugh Saga

All-New Two-Hour ‘Dateline’ Block Starts at 9pm ET on Friday & Will Also Spotlight New Developments in Kristin Smart Disappearance

October 27, 2021 – In a Dateline NBC exclusive, family members of Gloria Satterfield, a housekeeper employed by prominent South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh, speak out for the first time about her death after she fell at the Murdaugh’s household, and the recent indictment of Alex for allegedly misappropriating insurance money meant for Gloria’s family. The interview is part of an all-new two-hour Dateline NBC block airing Friday, October 29 at 9 pm ET/8pm CT.

During Friday’s special, Gloria’s brother tells NBC News’ Craig Melvin “it ain’t about the money,” explaining, “It’s like [Gloria] was a nobody, as much as she’s done for him.” Gloria’s sister also tells Melvin, “Did [Alex] have that going through his mind that day when we buried Gloria, and thinking ‘Oh, how much money am I going to get? How can I get this?’” Alex’s lawyer says he is presumed innocent at this point.

The broadcast will go beyond the headlines in the Murdaugh family saga and will feature in-depth reporting on the murders of Alex’s wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul. Melvin will also speak with Curtis “Eddie” Smith, the man accused of shooting Alex in September in an insurance scheme. Smith denies all charges. Additionally, Dateline will reveal new details in the death of Stephen Smith, who was found dead in 2015 after an alleged hit and run. Stephen’s mother and his twin sister speak out to Melvin for the first time on network TV after police recently announced they would look into his death again in the wake of the murders of Maggie and Paul.

During the two-hour block, Dateline will also report on new developments in the disappearance of California Polytechnic State University freshman Kristin Smart, who vanished after leaving a party in 1996. In network TV exclusive interviews, Kristin’s brother and a former student who was at the party Smart attended will speak with Dateline correspondent Josh Mankiewicz. Mankiewicz also interviews insiders close to the case, including Your Own Backyard podcast host Chris Lambert and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson. Click here to watch a preview.
