Oct. 26, 2021 – NBC News NOW will present special coverage of the consequential 2021 gubernatorial, state-level and local mayoral elections taking place across the country on Tuesday, Nov. 2 beginning at 9 p.m. ET. 

The primetime Meet the Press: Election Night Special will be hosted by NBC News Political Director and Meet the Press Moderator Chuck Todd and Chief White House Correspondent Kristen Welker

The two-hour special will feature in-depth coverage and analysis of the results of the nationally-watched Virginia gubernatorial election between former governor and Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe and Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin. Todd and Welker will examine the national implications of the race, the role both former President Trump and President Biden’s stalled agenda play in the outcome, the continued evolution and realignment of both political parties, and more. 

Meet the Press: Election Night Special will also cover the latest on the New Jersey gubernatorial race between Democratic incumbent Phil Murphy and Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli; local mayoral races in New York City, Boston and Minneapolis; the contentious school board elections in Southlake, Texas; and more. 

Todd and Welker will be joined by Chief Washington Correspondent Andrea Mitchell and NBC News NOW Anchor Joshua Johnson, along with correspondents and reporters dispatched across the country. The special marks the first of several specials that the streaming network will host leading up to the 2022 midterms.

To watch, tune in to NBC News NOW on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 9 p.m. ET, continuing throughout the night as races are called. PLUS — NBC NEWS’ ‘COUNTY TO COUNTY’ RETURNS, EMBEDDING IN SEVEN KEY BELLWETHER COUNTIES AHEAD OF THE 2022 MIDTERMS

NBC News and Meet the Press have relaunched its year-long ‘County to County’ project, covering and embedding in seven bellwether counties from coast-to-coast to report on issues with national implications as the 2022 midterms begin to take shape. 

Over the next year, NBC News reporters will build on the success of the 2020 initiative, doubling down on its on-the-ground reporting to understand — from the ground up — the issues, political fault lines, and national headlines driving local conversations.

NBC News and MSNBC Correspondent Ellison Barber will report from Chattooga County, Ga.; NBC News Reporter Dasha Burns will report from Luzerne County, Pa. and Delaware County, Ohio; NBC News and MSNBC Correspondent Shaquille Brewster will report from Duval County, Fla. and Dane County, Wis; NBC News Correspondent Antonia Hylton will report from Anson County, N.C., and NBC News Correspondent Guad Venegas will report from Washoe County, Nev.

The reporters will interview voters throughout the next year in these seven demographically significant counties, track the local economies, media landscapes and evolving opinions and sentiments as the 2022 midterm races begin to take shape and unfold.
