TODAY Delivers Best Demo Win Over GMA in 36 Weeks, Since Thanksgiving
TOKYO – August 10, 2021 – TODAY was the number-one morning show during the second week of the Tokyo Olympics, topping “Good Morning America” in total viewers and the key demo. The win marks TODAY’s second straight week of across-the-board wins and biggest audience deliveries since March. TODAY also posted its best demo win over GMA in 36 weeks, since Thanksgiving. TODAY has now won 305 out of 310 weeks in the demo.
TODAY Digital reached 14 million unique visitors last week, growing year over year. This marks Digital’s strongest week since early May.
TODAY HIGHLIGHTS:
TODAY averaged 985,000 A25-54 viewers, outperforming GMA by +198,000 (+25%) and CBS This Morning by +568,000 (+136%)
- TODAY has ranked #1 among A25-54 viewers for 305 of the last 310 weeks
- This was TODAY’s biggest A25-54 viewership in 21 weeks (since week of 3/8/2021) and its widest lead over GMA in 36 weeks (week of 11/23/2020, Thanksgiving) and over CBS in 67 weeks (week of 4/20/2020)
- Compared to the same week last season, TODAY’s demo lead over GMA is up +82% (+198,000 vs. +109,000 prior year) and improved its advantage over CBS by 38% (+568,000 vs. +411,000 prior year)
- Week-over-week, TODAY posted the biggest A25-54 growth among the morning shows, adding +14,000 viewers (+1.5%) and increased its leads over GMA and CBS
TODAY averaged 694,000 A18-49 viewers, leading GMA by +182,000 (+36%) and CBS by +374,000 (+117%)
- TODAY has ranked #1 among A25-54 viewers for 308 of the last 313 weeks
- TODAY posted its widest advantage over GMA in 36 weeks (week of 11/23/2020, Thanksgiving)
- TODAY increased its leads over both GMA (67% higher) and CBS (22% higher) vs. same week last season
TODAY averaged 3.428 million total viewers, +336,000 (+11%) higher than GMA and +1.100 million (+47%) more than CBS This Morning
- TODAY drew its biggest total viewer audience in 22 weeks (since the week of 3/1/2021), largest total viewer advantage over CBS since week #1 of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics (week of 2/12/2018)
- Compared to the same week last season, TODAY’s total viewer audience increased by +129,000 (+4%) while its lead over CBS improved by 53% (+1.100 million vs. +719,000 prior year)
- TODAY added +67,000 (+2%) total viewers week-over-week while improving its advantage over CBS by 23% (+1.100 million vs. +897,000 prior week)
