Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Carson Daly team up with Mark Cuban, Jewel, Andrew Zimmern, Keisha Lance Bottoms and more to share advice with deserving students
Tomorrow’s Voices streams on TODAY All Day, March 22 – 26, with extra features on TODAY all week long
March 22, 2021 – TODAY is premiering “Tomorrow’s Voices” – a TODAY All Day streaming special, hosted by TODAY’s Hoda Kotb – aimed at creating a platform for deserving teens across the country. Streaming all week beginning March 22 at 11am and 8pm ET, the show spotlights five students who were surprised by TODAY anchors with the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to interview one of their heroes. The teens are also able to collaborate with their role models or tackle a project that gives back to their communities. Along the way, TODAY anchors share advice and ‘pro tips’ on how to conduct a great interview.
This special show from NBC News and TODAY is devoted to elevating the voices of underserved and underrepresented youth across the country. Comcast, the show’s sponsor and parent company of NBCUniversal, helped find all of the students involved through its Internet Essentials program aimed at bridging the digital divide.
- Hoda Kotb teams up with Ashis Dhakal, a Nepalese refugee from Salt Lake City. Ashis wants to be an entrepreneur and a philanthropist. Ashis gets to meet his hero, Mark Cuban.
- Al Roker chats with Ummi Green from Berkeley, California. Ummi is an accomplished fencer, budding architect and storyteller. He travels to Los Angeles to meet Frank Abney, an animator for Disney Pixar’s Soul and executive producer of the Academy Award-winning animated short, Hair Love.
- Carson Daly connects with Jasmine Chesbro, a teen from Philadelphia who has used music to help her cope with ADHD. The young singer and songwriter will collaborate on a song with Grammy nominated singer-songwriter, Jewel.
- Craig Melvin teams up with Juan Murguia, a self-described foodie from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Juan has looked up to Andrew Zimmern his whole life and now gets to meet him for a one-on-one cooking class and tasting.
- Plus, at just 14-years-old, artist and environmentalist Betsy Okrent from Philadelphia meets Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who challenges Betsy to spread awareness through her art. Betsy teams up with a local artist and creates a sculpture for her city.
Courtesy of NBCU Academy, the students all had the opportunity to learn basic TV interview and journalism skills from NBC News correspondents.
The full interviews and sessions with the teens and their heroes airs exclusively on TODAY All Day. TODAY broadcast will feature the TODAY anchors meeting the kids throughout the week.
