November 6, 2019 – Whitney Houston’s best friend and confidante, Robyn Crawford, breaks her silence for the first time on television, revealing in a special edition of Dateline NBC her romantic relationship with the music superstar: “Our friendship was a deep friendship. In the early part of that friendship, it was physical.” Crawford also shares an inside account of Houston’s triumphs and tragedies, including her battle with drugs and tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown. Dateline NBC’s “A Song for Whitney” airs Saturday, November 9 at 9pm ET/8pm CT and the first clips from the interview will be released on TODAY Thursday, November 7. Crawford will also join TODAY for her first live interview on Monday, November 11.
Crawford ends years of speculation about her intimate relationship with Houston, telling NBC News’ Craig Melvin: “It was during that first summer that we met, was the first time our lips touched. And it wasn’t anything planned, it just happened. And it felt wonderful. And then, not long after that, we spent the night together. And that evening was the night that we touched. And that just brought us closer.” Crawford just wrote a memoir, “A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston,” which will be released next week.
During the tell-all Dateline hour, Crawford shares behind-the-scenes personal stories from Houston’s three-decade career. She tells of the two lives Houston led: the celebrity the public saw and the real Houston, who worked hard to become a star and the toll that eventually took on her.
