September 19, 2019 – Virginia Roberts Giuffre shares her account to NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie of being forced to have sex with Jeffrey Epstein and others in his powerful orbit, including Prince Andrew, and her allegation that Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, played a crucial role in his sex trafficking organization. For this special investigative edition of Dateline NBC titled “Reckoning,” airing Friday, Sept. 20 at 10pm ET/9pm CT, Guthrie speaks with several women who also describe the elaborate and highly organized operation that enabled Epstein to abuse young girls for many years.
Guthrie also sits down for the first extensive television interview with Michael Reiter, the former Palm Beach Chief of Police who oversaw the original investigation into Epstein. Reiter tells Guthrie that his department’s investigation more than a decade ago uncovered substantial evidence of Epstein’s crimes, but subsequent handling by state and federal prosecutors was deeply flawed. He describes it as “the worst failure of the criminal justice system…in modern times.”
Additionally, Guthrie speaks with a group of women, some talking publicly for the first time about their harrowing accusations against Epstein, their years-long quest for justice and what that means following Epstein’s death. Among them are Anouska De Georgiou and Rachel Benavidez, coming forward for the first time, as well as Giuffre, Jennifer Araoz, Marijke Chartouni and Chauntae Davies.
Prince Andrew, Maxwell and others deny Giuffre’s allegations.
“Reckoning” is produced by a team led by investigative producer Sarah Fitzpatrick, Dateline senior producer Allison Orr and head of NBC News’ Investigative Unit, Richard Greenberg.
