#1 Across the Board for Sixth Straight Sweep Period; 15th Straight Sweep in Key Demo
Wins Sunday Across the Board; #1 in Key Demo for 66th Straight Broadcast
May 21, 2019 – Meet the Press with Chuck Todd (MTP) was the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board for the May sweep, according to Nielsen Media Research, winning its sixth straight sweep across the board. This marks the second consecutive year MTP has won the May sweep among total viewers and fourth consecutive year MTP has won the May sweep among A25-54 demo viewers.
An average of 3.069 million total viewers tuned into the broadcast during the May sweep: +485,000 (+19 percent) more than ABC’s This Week and +137,000 (five percent) more than CBS’ Face the Nation. Compared to last year, MTP increased its total viewer lead over both ABC (+42 percent) and CBS (+52 percent). An average of 724,000 A25-54 demo viewers tuned into MTP during the May sweep, topping both ABC and CBS by double-digits: +96,000 (+15 percent) more than ABC and +134,000 (+23 percent) more than CBS. May marks MTP’s 15th consecutive sweep win in the demo most valued by news advertisers.
MTP was also the most-watched Sunday show across the board this past Sunday, May 19, marking the show’s 13th straight win in total viewers and 66th straight win in the A25-54 key demo. Sunday’s broadcast featured exclusive interviews with Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Tom Cotton and averaged 2.920 million total viewers: +23 percent (+538,000) more than ABC’s This Week and one percent (+40,000) more than CBS’ Face the Nation. This marks the broadcast’s 46th straight win over ABC in total viewers and 21th win over CBS out of the last 22 broadcasts.
MTP also won in the demo most valued by news advertisers for its 66th straight broadcast, topping both ABC and CBS by double-digits. 710,000 A25-54 demo viewers tuned into the Sunday program: +26 percent (+145,000) more than ABC and +23 percent (+134,000) more than CBS. This streak is longer than any other achieved in the Sunday Public Affairs category in the history of modern Nielsen ratings (since 1987).
Season-to-date, MTP is the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board, delivering its best total viewer lead over ABC in seven years and CBS in eight years.
MTP continues to dominate the influential Washington, D.C. market, outperforming its competition combined across the board and winning every Sunday with total viewers for more than four straight years (since March 22, 2015).
An additional 852,000 total viewers and 147,000 A25-54 viewers watched the Sunday program through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.
